The Kesrith Subsector gets its name from the first ship to enter the subsector, albeit in error. The Kesrith was a small freighter with a faulty astrogation computer. Early Varan biochips were subject to bit loss, and the Kesrith had no Navigator.
After three successive jumps to the wrong destination, the crew gave up, and landed on the planetary surface at Kesrith (Mikhail 1422) to find the materials to allow repairs.
The dirtside discovery of significant deposits of Lanthanum and many heavy metals made this the destination of choice for years to come, and made the original crew famous.
