The Royal Caledonian Naval Academy is the four-year training body for Caledonian naval recruits.
Cadets - called "Midshipmen" - alternate intensive classroom work with time spent operating training vessels, cruises on operational naval vessels, and in their fourth year a cadet cruise on the navy's training cruiser, the "Antrim", which is entirely manned by Midshipmen (with a few seasoned officers and Warrant Officers in supervisory roles).
The program is highly selective - about 50% of those who start the program are washed out (and serve out their terms in the enlisted ranks - from whence they can rise through the ranks to become Warrant Officers).
