I find the continued mixing of the Commonwealth (RAF) and Continental (USAF) Air Force Organizational Structure at the Wing/Group level very confusing to try and rectify with the names of the Officer Rank Structure at the associated level. Further, various Traveller Publications have now used both versions of the organizational structure, and mid-grade officer ranks that reflect both the correct and a corrupted ("flip-flopped") form of the Commonwealth structure for the associated officer names at those levels. The rank Group-Captain should always be senior to Wing-Commander in order to remain synchronized with rank-names in other space / naval / nautical services. Since all versions of Traveller from the beginning have used the Commonwealth Officer Rank (RAF) system (or something closely based on it) and the current owner (Mongoose) is a British company, I am going to treat the instances of the Continental / USAF order of Unit Organization as errata items and go with the Commonwealth / RAF order. This is the opposite of the order found in GURPS Traveller: Star Mercs and MegaTraveller: COACC.

Notes (2016)[edit]

I brought the COACC Rank structure more in line with that detailed in MT:COACC and GT:Star Mercs.

Notes (2026)[edit]
