The Others are a race which is believed to have existed some 100,000 years ago. The name is taken from a book written by self proclaimed Professor Indigo Lunit, who claimed to have discovered evidence of the race during the latter years of the first First Civil War.

Lunit's book advances the theory that the Others rose to intelligence after the Ancient's Final War and that they explored the sector using sublight starships. The book offered little supporting evidence to back its claims and was quickly dismissed by the scientific community of the day.

Lunit disappeared along with the artifacts she claimed to possess not long after the book was published. Both were on their way to Capital and a meeting with the Imperial Academy of Science. Lunit's ship is presumed to have been lost in a space battle in Core sector. Few people today have ever heard of Indigo Lunit or the Others.
