NeoTrokh (language)

A lingua franca extensively used by the Alikasch, a shared Human-Aslan subculture -- and by many Imperial citizens in the vicinity of Medurma.

The language has diverged greatly from its root tongue, Hierate Trokh. It would be extremely foolish to use NeoTrokh to converse with a Hierate Aslan; an immediate challenge would result. The pronunciation and grammar of NeoTrokh has been radically simplified, for the sake of its Human speakers. Gender distinctions in vocabulary have been largely eliminated.

Lexicon

Where the Alikasch encountered difficulties in reworking their vocabulary, they simply imported Galanglic words. For example, the NeoTrokh for "shoot" is syoo't.

• Aiteh: Semi-mythical electronic oracles or "tribal spirits" believed to belong to each of the major Alikasch tribes.

• Astei'a: Plates of precious metal engraved with sacred scenes, worn on tribemembers' cyberlimbs.

• Ftei 'rta: Warriors, a social caste.

• Hiehas d'Ekhoao Tleftuaw: Alikasch brothels specifically designed for Aslan females. Honour demands that Aslan females remain chaste until pairing, but lesbian liaisons between Aslan females are considered an acceptable way to find sexual release without risking honour.

• Hsin Kh'ai: "Cleansing-of-Heart", a 75-hour trial of survival for those seeking higher rank.

• Htan'sa: Dancers, a social caste.

• S'ouira: Squires, a social caste.
