Zuchai Crystal
Zuchai Crystals are a vital strategic resource used to manufacture high power energy capacitor systems, especially in the core of a Jump Drive.
Description (Specifications)
These crystals form the raw material for a vital focusing element in jump drives. They are both naturally occurring and manufactured, but the natural type appear to have longer operating lives. [1]
The crystals are used in the "Zuchai Crystal Energy Sink Array"[2] (also known as the "Jump Capacitors"). A typical starship uses several kilograms of Zuchai crystals. Larger starships may use hundreds or even thousands of kilograms of this resource.
Natural crystals in a raw state are worth about Cr1,000 per kilogram[3].
History & Background (Dossier)
The ancient Solomani name for these crystals has been forgotten.
Worlds & Sectors (Astrography)
One of the best known mines of Zuchai crystals is located on Dinom (Spinward Marches 1811) near the city of Medianne. Another natural source of these crystals is located on Belgard (Trojan Reach 1106). Though it is perhaps their primary export good, they control this knowledge to protect their system.
