Zjemu-ay is an agricultural, nonindustrial world still lacking adequate means to expand its economy.

  • As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • It is a member of the Two Thousand Worlds in the Iruratikr Subsector of Numbis Sector.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)

Zjemu-ay is a geologically active, medium iron world orbiting Wra-Rrii (Large Sun), a K0 V star, which in turn orbits Neurr-Rrii (Small Sun), the system's F5 V primary. It is possible that Neurr-Rrii was captured by Wra-Rrii at some point, but somehow captured Zjemu-ay from it. Apart from variable season lengths arising from the position of the system's two stars, it has a pleasant enough environment, although some of the land is sterile, following the long-ago invasion by K'kree.

Mainworld Data

Zjemu-ay has one large moon, Ina.

Native Sophont (NIL): Mazjaru

The only known Mazjaru civilization developed in Zjemu-ay’s southern subtropical zone, in the Ashen Plain (a broad valley between two high plateaus).

  • One city, Zdamuzh, became the leader of the settled groups. This settlement stood on sandbars in an extensive lagoon, so it was impervious to land assault. It also monopolized overseas trade with primitive peoples along the Dreaming Gulf’s coasts.
  • Zdamuzh was at the height of its power, a benign empire stretching across the Ashen Steppe and around both the Perfume Sea and the Dreaming Gulf, when the K’kree arrived. The planet was too wet and hilly for K’kree tastes, but they studied its people from orbit and noted that the locals did not eat meat and were of low technology. They nuked the biggest city, then landed and enslaved the survivors.

History & Background (Dossier)

The name Zjemu-ay is Mazjaru, not K'kree, and means "earth" or "soil". That charts retain the native name should not be taken as evidence of any K'kree respect for the native culture; the Mazjaru are among the lowest of Two Thousand Worlds clients.

World Starport (St)

Zjemu-ay has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

The only real export-import business involves transporting Mazjaru for various labour tasks as and when required.

World Population (P)

Zjemu-ay has a population of 200,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

Note that this official population code is thought to refer to the local K'kree only; the Mazjaru population is many times higher.

World Demographics

World Technology Level (T)

Zjemu-ay possesses a Tech Level of TL–7.

World Government (G)

Zjemu-ay is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be monarchy, with titles passed to family members. Or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Or the organization may be more typical organization with positions of power inherited.

This oligarchy consists of the conquering K'kree, aided in subordinate positions by the Äzhujè quislings.

All Mazjaru communities are run by a zhmadda (deputy) who acts as the link between the Masters and the Mazjaru. This individual has complete authority over the people and may exercise it as he pleases, provided he does not harm K'kree interests in the process.

World Law (L)

Zjemu-ay has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. A few worlds with this law level may be a Red Zone and others will be an Amber Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors).

World Culture

On their designated rest days, Mazjaru leisure activities include socializing, indulging in state-sponsored hobbies, and compulsory church attendance. The K’kree insist on communal, regulated social centres (attached to churches), and operate an alcohol-based incentive scheme.

World Languages

  • !kee
  • Raxkiir
  • Private, surreptitious use of old Mazjaru languages.
