The Zaris are a Minor human race, an apparent attempt by the Ancients to derive a type of humans for use as workers. Some significant metabolic processes were altered slightly to prevent cross-breeding with other Humans. Other adjustments were apparently to the level of initiative shown by the Zaris, leading to their slow technological development. Cultural stability remains very high (higher even than Vilani standards), society changing only slightly over millenia.
