The Yinoti class Blockade Runner is a Military Auxiliary starship.
- It is a military ship, a Fast Packet Ship, and a Blockade Runner.
Description (Specifications)
The main point of a Yinoti is to get its 10-marine g-carrier onto a world's surface without being seen, hide while the marines do their work, and fly them home after their mission is complete. With careful piloting and good intel about any holes in the destination world's sensor net, this is possible against all but the most heavily guarded worlds (and sometimes even those). Double-jump fuel capacity and a 9-G maneuver drive gives an escape option should the infiltration go poorly. As an absolute last resort, if caught on the ground with its crew deployed, a Yionti is shaped like a common Beowulf class Free Trader and can try to pretend to be one; a detailed scan will give away the lie, but this can sometimes buy enough minutes to recall the marines and evacuate.
A Yinoti does not have enough power to run all systems at once, but in practice, at most two of the holographic hull, maneuver drive, and jump drive will be in use at a time: either the ship is making a stealthy jump (only powering the holographic hull and jump drive), the ship is making a fast exit (only using the maneuver drive and jump drive), or the ship is not jumping at the moment (needing only the holographic hull and maneuver drive). The ship is crowded, with not just double occupancy but double roles assumed: usually the pilot is the astrogator, the engineer and at least one of the marines can fill the gunner slots as needed (and will not crew the barbette most of the time, saving its ammunition for single shot indirect fire in support of deployed marines, or full salvos against targets - usually pursuing spaceships - outside the beam laser's range), and one of the 10 marines is also the captain in charge of the entire operation (and thus, in charge of the ship).
Although a Yinoti can be seen as a Combat Vehicle Transport, as its job is to deliver and retrieve its g-carrier and the vehicle's crew, the range of missions that can be performed with one vehicle and 10 marines - and the fact that it is designed to insert and exit via stealth, rather than under fire - puts the Yinoti under Packet Ship classification, like most Blockade Runners.

History & Background (Dossier)
As of 1105, many missions the Yinotis have been on are classified, not suitable for detail in public databases such as this. However, it has gained reputation for good service, for (and occasionally against) the Imperial Navy. Say "blockade runner" at any starport bar frequented by the Imperial Navy, and odds are someone will immediately think of the Yinoti class. A telepath who served on one claims to have tested this over a few years, and found it true at least 65% of the time as of 1066.
At some point within its first 20 years of service, the Solomani Confederation obtained a copy of the designs and began manufacturing their own. Zhodani and Vargr operated Yinoti have been observed as well, or possibly knockoffs with similar specifications. Zhodani Consulate forces in particular are alleged to use a Yinoti to infiltrate a world, sneak up on and influence its leaders, then leave while being able to deny they were ever there; while many cases of this are no doubt mere propaganda, it is known that other polities that make use of this design do the same thing, though most of them without the aid of psionics.
Class Naming Practice/s & Peculiarities
Ship Interior Details: To partially compensate for the crowded crew composition, the bottom deck is designed for the marines to hang out when not in their staterooms, beyond just hosting the crew commons. There is not so much a cargo hold as a designated area to store cargo. The armory lacks its typical bulkhead-grade walls: almost all the crew are marines anyway, and if either of the two non-marines are not versed in gun safety at the start of a jump, they tend to be by its end. The g-carrier dock (normally close to the ground when the ship is landed; when the g-carrier needs to get in or out, the articulated landing gears "stand up", pushing the ship up to give enough clearance) is readily accessible, making it easy for marines to do what maintenance can be done from within the vehicle. The ramp at the front of the bottom deck (essentially an oversized airlock) has its side walls hardened so that marines at its iris valves with energy weapons set to low power (and clip-on recoil simulators if they want to emulate projectile weapons) can use it as a shooting range, with tiny, moving holographic targets (emitted from the rear) to make up for the limited maximum distance. Savvy Yinoti captains meeting friendly forces have tuned these emitters to enhance their appearance as they strode down the ramp - just enough to make a good first impression, subtle enough that the locals have not noticed if and when the captain walked beyond the emitters' range, shutting down the effect.
The middle deck is mostly comprised of fuel, 6 staterooms for 12 crew, the bridge, and a secondary airlock to the rear. The top deck is almost entirely jump drive and more fuel. A common modification is to replace the inner inter-deck iris valves and ladders with stairs, slightly reducing ability to survive a hull breach in exchange for crew comfort. The turret and barbette accesses are rarely replaced since, as the ship's weapons are potential targets in combat, it is seen as preferable to keep an iris valve between the crew space and the most likely places for the hull to be holed.
Class Naming Practice/s: The Yinoti class is named for legendary or historical stealth couriers. Yinoti is a figure from Vilani history - a shugilii whose legend began with hiding messages in meals she prepared - some historians have noted that Yinoti's later exploits might have seen her called a ninja had she lived on ancient Terra. Many Solomani-built Yinoti class ships bear the names of ninja, real or fictional.
It seems highly probable that at least one ninja clan, having survived through the ages, has come into possession of and operates at least one Yinoti. Ninja being ninja, decisively proving this - let alone exactly which Yinoti(s) are ninja-owned and operated - using publicly available evidence is all but impossible.
