Xtce is a low-population, nonindustrial vacuum world, with a population of less than 10,000 sophonts in population size, warranting hazardous environment precautions.

  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • As a nonindustrial world, It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Jonson Subsector of Hadji Sector.

History & Background (Dossier)

Colonized by the Solomani as part of the Rule of Man effort that settled the adjacent Menzel Cluster to trailing, this system had little to offer long term that wasn't also readily available in the Cluster. Over the intervening 3 millenia it has been abandoned and resettled too many times to accurately count, often with a name change as the new settlers picked a different body in the system to try their luck on.

In 1043 (Imperial), during a resurgence of the Bowes Hegemony in the Menzel Cluster, an exclusive "entertainment" corporation claimed the system and placed an extensive complex on a close-in moon around the system's only gas giant. The facility, and by extension the moon, was named XTCE, and several thousand permanent staff were moved there to claim settlement rights (breveted to the company, of course). This facility served its rich and elite Bowes Hegemony clientele a variety of entertainments, some of which would have been frowned upon at home.

When the Bowes Hegemony began to break up in 1102 (Imperial), Xtce served as a haven of one segment of the aristocracy. They were ultimately on the losing side as the Hegemony shattered, and Xtce was raided by a cadre of political rivals in 1109, operating from nearby Dempsey. Dempsey would become the new capital, under a revolutionary leader, as the old Hegemony fell into chaotic squabbling. The newly named Jonson-Bowes Federation began sending new resources to the system to keep it from being exploitable by the other worlds. They also rechristened the system, again, as the Xeni system, hoping to paper over the decadence and depravity of the XTCE resort.
