The Warhound class Light Cruiser is a warship.
- It is a military ship and a Light Cruiser.
Description (Specifications)
Classification of this ship as a light cruiser in the Solomani Navy, has brought on snorts of derision from imperial admiralty. This seems more Solomani propaganda and bravado then an honest assessment of this ship's capabilities. The size of an imperial destroyer or fleet escort, the ship has some remarkable features, none the less.
There are five independently targeted weapons batteries. The major weapon is a missile bay which requires ten hardpoints worth of mounting brackets and hull space. This weapons bay is filled with space to surface bombardment ordinance with multiple, independently target-able re-entry warheads, and long range anti-shipping missiles. The twenty turrets include a cluster of particle accelerator barbettes, some fusion guns, beam lasers and a few sandcasters for defense.
It has strong screens and the most dramatic defensive feature is the thick layers of flexible energy absorbent armored platelets over several centimeters of bonded super-dense alloys. This renders the streamlined needle hull nearly invulnerable to turret based weapon systems. The trade off is that the acceleration and agility are lower.
It carries a small squadron of light fighters, a pair of Steffern class Assault Landers, and a section of Solomani Confederation Marines. A small Solomani Security (Solsec) detachment is assigned to keep an eye on the political climate and party loyalty among the crew members. If additional ground troops are called for, members of the low watch can be displaced from the low berths. Expert medical supervision is required to ensure no squad members are lost during the revival process.
