The Inner System

The inner system contains two intensely hot worlds and a planetoid belt:

Sagadiris the system's innermost world and experiences scorching temperatures.

  • It is rarely visited.

Umiggash, and Umiggahs's large moon Dinnika remain undeveloped balls of rock.

  • Umiggash and Dinnika are somewhat unusual, as their similarity in size makes them a double-planet system.
  • These worlds are rarely visited, being of interest mainly to scientists.

The Khamiur Belt lies just starward of the habitable zone.

  • The belt's resources were mostly mined out by the start of the Interstellar Wars. Prospecting efforts continue, however, in a search for other, less valuable deposits.

The Habitable Zone

Vland, the mainworld of the system, and its three moons orbit within the star's habitable zone:

Vland's Moons

Vland has three natural satellites; innermost Irukka, well-colonized Gashema, and large, distant Kalaguur. The combined illumination provided by these three moons make dark nights virtually unknown. When all three moons are full, the night-time light level makes outdoor reading possible without artificial aid.

  • Irukka ia barren ball of rock orbiting roughly 170,000 km from Vland. A small corporate mining and fueling station is maintained here, along with a government-operated weather surveillance post. The latter installation coordinates information from thousands of weather satellites circling Vland in geostationary orbits.
  • Gashema is marginally habitable with its thin atmosphere and significant amount of free water. Orbiting Vland at a distance 550,000 km, Gashema supports a thriving colony, a psychohistorical research station, and a military base - The operational headquarters of Vland's COACC.
  • Kalaquur is a large satellite, nearly large enough to be a twin planet. A distant 720,000 km from Vland, Kalaquur is seldom visited. Its atmosphere - rich with sulfur compounds - is poisonous, and the only local settlement is a small corporate mining colony.

The Outer System

The outer system contains three frigidly cold worlds:

Lirshala is a barren, uninhabited world.

  • Lishala's small moon, Aga, is equally barren.

Bikamakku is the next world out from Lirshala and is noteworthy only for its thin atmosphere and sizable ice caps.

  • Bikamakhu has one satellite, Kaniirer, an irregular body pockmarked with craters.

Luukad is the outermost world in the Vland system. Beneath its dense methane atmosphere lie the majority of in-system naval facilities, including a capable shipyard.

  • Despite Luukad's hostile environment, over three million people make their homes there.
