The rank of Vice Admiral is one of the senior commissioned officer rank in the Imperial Navy. The Admiral is given charge of one of the Numbered Fleet in a sector.
History & Background (Dossier)
A rank that was initially envisaged as that for the second in command of a Fleet and leader of the Vanguard elements of the fleet in the line of battle.
A detachment of multiple squadrons from a numbered fleet in the Imperium will be normally be commanded by at least a Vice Admiral.
Permanent appointment to this rank attracts the title of Knight[1]. i.e. Should there not be any appropriate Noble candidate, the non-Noble will be granted a knighthood as part of the promotion process.
