History & Background (Dossier)

A rank that was initially envisaged as that for the second in command of a Fleet and leader of the Vanguard elements of the fleet in the line of battle. A detachment of multiple squadrons from a numbered fleet in the Imperium will be normally be commanded by at least a Vice Admiral.
