The Verge sector is managed from, through not part of, the Domain of Ilelish. The Verge sector manages the parts of the Reft Sector on the rimward/traling side of the Great Rift. This would include Arcrant, Limon, Moibin subsectors.
+
Verge sector is managed as part of the Domain of Ilelish despite being outside the traditional four sector footprint of the Domain. Verge sector in turn manages those parts of Reft Sector on the rimward/trailing side of the Great Rift. This jurisdictional control includes Arcrant, Limon, and Moibin subsectors of Reft Sector.

The Aslan Border Wars lightly touched the sector, at least compared to other regions. Over the centuries there were few large engagements within its boundaries, though there was frequent skirmishing. The Peace of Ftahalr ended the ongoing Aslan-human conflicts and fixed the current Imperial and Heirate borders in place. Many fully Imperial worlds, complete with nobles and representation within the Imperial Moot, cannot be incorporated into the Imperium due to the clauses of the Peace.

Astrographic Features & Trade Routes
* This sector is named Khiyhkokaeie Sector in the Aslan Hierate.
+
The following astrographic and commercial data regarding the sector has been determined:
* This sector was named Shaakasi Sector during the First Imperium.
+
* The spinward half of the sector is a rift density region: the trailing half of the sector is a standard stellar density region.
+
* The brightest star in the sector is the unstable yellow bright giant primary of the Kokka system.
+
* Important trade routes within the region include the Great Ilelish Main, the Nuzuu Main, the Sirim Loop, and the Vilani Main.

Stellar Distribution
+
A basic map showing the distribution and size of stars within Verge Sector.
+
* The color corresponds to the visible color of the star, which links to its spectral classification.
+
* The size as shown indicates both the physical size of the object and its relative brightness.
+

+

(Chart sourced from Traveller Map).
+

+
Note that the stars as depicted are representative. Any star, no matter what its size, is a mere speck within the hex it occupies.
+
* Ordinary main sequence stars can barely be seen from even a hex away.
+
* Huge, intensely luminous giant stars can be seen from across the sector and far beyond.
+

+
Relative to other nearby sectors, Verge Sector contains an unusually high number of small dim red main sequence stars.
+
* Experts on such matters believe that this phenomena is related to the presence and nature of the Great Rift.
+
* Compact star systems with tidally locked worlds orbiting a fraction of an AU apart are common around such stars.

The sector lies on the trailing side of the Great Rift.
+
* The rift hinders travel and commerce within the region.
+
* It has placed a boundary on Imperial settlement and expansion within the area.
+
* Due to its position relative to the Rift, the region is sometimes referred to as being Within The Claw.

+

+
The nature and limits of the rift may be determined by different criteria in different regions.
+
* Generally, its boundaries are based on jump performance.
+
* Areas may traditionally be considered rift regions, even though all of their worlds are accessible to ships equipped with high performance drives.

* Ilelish Interstellar Information Interchange: a news and media organization particularly noted for following the personal lives of the rich and titled. It maintains large centers of operations at Xboat Hubs. It is a wholly owned but largely independent subsidiary of Llelish Interstellar, a media corporation based in Ilelish Sector.
+
* Khaaru Bulk LIC, a transport and logistics company that operates within the Imperial-controlled regions of the sector.
+
* Ling Standard Products, an Imperial Megacorporation engaged in resource extraction and processing across the sector.
+
* Lone Star Haulers, an Imperial transport and logistics company that operates along the rimward edge of the sector and within the Aslan Hierate.
+
* Mining, a ruthless corporation based in Gushemege Sector and operating within the coreward-trailing quadrant of the sector. It is looking to exploit the untapped resources of the region.
+
* Naasirka, an Imperial Megacorporation with long historical ties to the region and substantial interests within the sector.

Trade Routes
+
A number of trade routes exist within this area. Of these, the most important are:
+

+
The Great Ilelish Main
+
The Great Ilelish Main has 104 member worlds and runs between Verge and Ilelish Sectors.
+
* It lies in the rimward-trailing quadrant of the sector.

+
The Nuzuu Main
+
The Nuzuu Main has 66 member worlds and runs between Verge and Ilelish Sectors
+
* It lies in the coreward-trailing quadrant of the sector.
+

+

+
* Worlds lying on the Main are highlighted in green.
+
* Tripolis, the capital of Verge Sector, is marked in red.
+

+
The Sirim Loop
+
The Sirim Loop has 38 member worlds and runs along the edge of the Great Rift.
+
* It lies in the coreward-trailing quadrant of the sector.
+

+

Nuzuu Jump Bridge
+
There is rumored to be a deep space fuel cache located within empty hex 2607 of Nuzuu Subsector, allowing jump-1 vessels to cross between the Nuzuu Main and the Sirim Loop.
+

+
Most believe this to be a myth, an Old Spacer's Tale.
+

+
The stories insist that it consists of a central array of vast storage tanks, intertwined with refineries, pumping gear, ancillary structures, docking facilities, control areas, and accommodations. It is refilled, the tales go, by tanker vessels that loop between the outer gas giant of the Aagun system and the facility, often escorted by small, fast gunboats. The Jump Bridge supposedly has reaction drive tugs to move visiting [Maneuver Drive|M-drive-equipped]] vessels to fuelling points and is surrounded by a sphere of sensor and navigation buoys out to approximately 50 AU.
+

+
It is most commonly believed to be a facility operated by one or more corporations and kept secret to give them an immense advantage over their commercial rivals.
+
* This would appear to be counterintuitive: if such a link between the two Mains did exist, openly advertising its presence and allowing merchant vessels passage would likely generate far more income and prestige for interested parties than keeping it a secret.
+
* Khaaru Bulk, an important local logistics corporation, is particularly associated with these stories.
+

+

(Chart sourced from Traveller Map)
+
* The Sirim Loop lies to spinward: Sirim, it's namesake world, is marked in green.
+
* The Nuzuu Main lies to trailing: Tripolis, the sector capital, is marked in red.
+
* The supposed location of the jump bridge is marked by a red target.
+

+
The immediate environs of the Jump Bridge:
+

+

(Chart sourced from Traveller Map)
+

+
If it does exist, the chances of a vessel blindly jumping into hex 2607 and stumbling across it are miniscule. A hex is vast, many light years across, and any signals or emissions produced by the facility would be indistinguishable from background noise beyond a few hundred AU. Any vessel accessing the Jump Bridge would need exact jump coordinates and some kind of security clearance.
+

+
The Vilani Main
+
The 985 system-long Vilani Main, the largest chain of systems in the Imperial region, is the oldest, richest, and most cohesive section of the Imperium. Few of its worlds gave up interstellar travel during the Long Night. The Main spans nearly 1,000 star systems and links the nearly 11,000 planets that orbit within them.
+
* Maps produced before the Rule of Man call the Main by its original Vilani name, Arshukaa Sagalaa.
+
* Verge Sector marks its furthest rimward point.
+

+

(Chart sourced from Traveller Map)
+
* Vland is marked in red.
+

+
The Main extends rimward and spinward from Windhorn Sector and Vland Sector, just touching on Core and Dagudashaag Sectors, following the edge of the Great Rift through Gushemege, dominating the rimward part of Reft Sector, and terminating in the coreward parts of Verge and Ilelish Sectors.
+

+
Verge Sector contains eight worlds that are members of the Main, all lying along the coreward edge of Arlumer Subsector.
+
* The Serafim system marks the Main's rimward terminus.

The presence of Chirpers and Droyne within the sector suggests Ancients activity, though the region contains no officially recognized Ancient Sites. Verge sector was initially explored and settled by Vilani humans following their discovery of jump drive technology. Most of its non-rift worlds were absorbed by the Ziru Sirka, though some remained independent: the Ziru Sirka's territory came under the control of the Rule of Man following the Interstellar Wars. The Aslan occupied the unexplored barren worlds lying on the rimward edge of the sector during their era of expansion, and as improving drive technology increased the range of vessels the two major races came into contact, inevitably leading to conflict.

Native Sophonts (NIL): 1105
+
Much of the sector regressed during the Long Night, with the ongoing Aslan-human fighting making a bad situation worse: only the Old Verge Combine emerged as a flourishing center of civilization, and even then relatively late in the period. The region had been absorbed by the expanding Third Imperium by around the beginning of the second century, though Imperial forces became embroiled in the ongoing raiding and skirmishing with the Aslan that marked the final stages of the Aslan Border Wars. The Peace of Ftahalr ended the millennia-long conflict and established the sector's current borders, though its terms meant that a number of fully Imperial worlds remained beyond the Imperium's frontier. The Ilelish Revolt and the Civil War caused widespread economic issues within the sector as supply chains and commuications were disrupted: despite these problems being addressed by the establishment of the Imperial Xboat network, their effects linger into the present day.

+
* Tuzhiri, a poor, heavily populated hell world.

History-Era: Rebellion
+
There are estimated to be in excess of 700 million Suerrat inhabiting the worlds of the Enclave.
As news of Dulinor's ascendance to the Iridium Throne reached Verge sector, most of the population was enthusiastic regarding the changes promised by Dulinor. However, after five years of unremitting warfare many of the worlds in the Verge had grown disenchanted with the never-ending demands for more ships, more troops, and more taxes levied against them by Dulinor's Federation of Ilelish.
+
* The Suerrat only form a small percentage (less than 5%) of each world's population.
* By late 1121, many of the senior nobility of the Verge had decided that Dulinor's promises of a new and better Imperium would never happen. Even as the Federation promised that victory was at hand, the conscription quotas and "mutual defense tariffs" levied against the Verge increased. The Verge, never one of the Imperium's most populous or wealthy sectors, finally reached its breaking point. The nobility, secretly meeting, agreed that it was time to break with Dulinor and the Federation and to form their own polity. Hearkening back to the time before the Third Imperium, during the Long Night, it was time for the Verge Combine to be reborn.
+
* The Suerrat speak their own languages, most commonly Na'ans.
* Protests on several Verge worlds were put down by Federation forces, sometimes violently. On 172-1122 Analea Mekatan, senior chamberlain of Turin announced the succession of the Verge and the formation of the Verge Combine. The combine was born with a shattered economy, a drained military, and hope for a brighter future. That future began when two Federation fleets, the 42nd and 1300th reserve, defected. Upon receiving word of the Combine's secession, Dulinor is reported to have become enraged. He ordered the Federation navy to "teach them the cost of betrayal". The commander of the Federation Naval Base at Beless immediately struck at the high population world of Tiawan.

* Tiawan is one of nineteen high population worlds in Verge Sector, three of which are located in the Great Rift. Tiawan is located fourteen parsecs spinward/rimward of Dlan, capital of the Federation, and is connected by a jump-1 route eighteen parsecs long. Most of the worlds on this main have class A or B starports in Ilelish sector, with only one class E port. But after crossing the boundary into Verge, many starports are class E and Tiawan itself has only a class D port. The commander of the naval base at Estelle sent every ship he had, none larger than a cruiser. Against Tiawan, with TL-11 and no naval forces worth mentioning, an easy victory was expected.

* On 192-1122, battle was joined. After six days of bitter fighting Federation forces limped home. While no Federation ships were lost, several Heavy Cruisers were seriously damaged. The Federation navy failed to wrest control of the system's main gas giant from Combine forces. The invasion of Tiawan, a moon of that gas giant, failed due to the Federation's inability to overcome stiff resistance. Remotely operated suicide craft struck at Federation naval forces, damaging the command cruiser and causing the Federation naval commander to flee. At least three divisions of Federation troops were abandoned on the surface of Tiawan. The Combine was ecstatic over their victory. The Federation was shocked.

* Dulinor ordered his forces to abstain from military action against the Verge. The thought of fighting a three-sided war against Lucan, Gushemege, and now the Combine was too much. Instead, he chose to interdict trade, and bring sanctions against the Verge, hoping to further strangle their already weak economy, and to bring them back into the fold without resorting to military means. According to his reasoning, with their backs to the void and no real help available to them, the Combine was not a great threat to his plans. And if pirates and privateers choose to strike at the vulnerable worlds of the Combine, that was just the price they would pay for freedom.

* A period of tit for tat raiding ensued. Forces from both sides crossed the borders seeking targets of opportunity. There were commerce raids and surgical strikes against command and communication nexuses. Havoc ensued for the next eight months. While no major naval engagements occurred, and no worlds were conquered, the cost in human lives and property lost was great. This, combined with the cost to the Federation from Lucan's Black War, strikes helped force a resolution. A cease-fire was announced on 062-1123.

* By 1125 the region was peaceful enough that Dulinor's daughter Isis visited Tripolis. By late 1127 Federation naval forces were using the instrumented test ranges in the trailing portion of the Verge as they worked up for Dulinor's final push against Lucan's Imperium.

* Virus reached Verge sector some time around mid-1130. No one knows exactly when. By 312-1130 it had reached Sestaso in the Great Rift. The collapse came slowly in the Verge. Most commerce had slowed down well before Virus was released. Many worlds, already suffering from the effects of ten years of deprivation, had simply died. The doom trade would have thrived, had enough ships remained for there to be trade. In the Verge, Virus was an afterthought.

Historical Era: Rebellion and The Collapse
No information yet available.
+
As news of Dulinor's ascendance to the Iridium Throne reached Verge sector, most of the population was enthusiastic regarding the changes promised by Dulinor. However, after five years of unremitting warfare many of the worlds in the Verge had grown disenchanted with the never-ending demands for more ships, more troops, and more taxes levied against them by Dulinor's Federation of Ilelish.
+
+
* Protests on several Verge worlds were put down by Federation forces, sometimes violently. On 172-1122 Analea Mekatan, senior chamberlain of Turin announced the succession of the Verge and the formation of the Verge Combine. The Combine was born with a shattered economy, a drained military, but with hope for a brighter future.
+
* Tiawan is one of nineteen high population worlds in Verge Sector, three of which are located in the Great Rift. Tiawan is located fourteen parsecs spinward/rimward of Dlan, capital of the Federation, and is connected by a jump-1 route eighteen parsecs long. Most of the worlds on this main have class A or B starports in Ilelish sector, with only one class E port. But after crossing the boundary into Verge, many starports are class E and Tiawan itself has only a class D port. The commander of the naval base at Beless sent every ship he had, none larger than a cruiser. Against Tiawan, with TL-11 and no naval forces worth mentioning, an easy victory was expected.
+
+
* Dulinor ordered his forces to abstain from military action against the Verge. The thought of fighting a three-sided war against Lucan, Gushemege Sector, and now the Combine was too much. Instead, he chose to interdict trade, and bring sanctions against the Verge Combine and its neighbors, hoping to further strangle their already weak economy, and to bring them back into the fold without resorting to military means. According to his reasoning, with their backs to the void and no real help available to them, the Combine was not a great threat to his plans. And if pirates and privateers choose to strike at the vulnerable worlds of the Combine, that was just the price they would pay for freedom.
+
* A period of tit for tat raiding ensued. Forces from both sides crossed the borders seeking targets of opportunity. There were commerce raids and surgical strikes against command and communication nexuses. Havoc ensued for the next eight months. While no major naval engagements occurred, and no worlds were conquered, the cost in human lives and property lost was great. This, combined with the cost to the Federation from Lucan's Black War, strikes helped force a resolution. A cease-fire was announced on 062-1123.
+
* By 1125 the region was peaceful enough that Dulinor's daughter Isis visited Tripolis. By late 1127 Federation naval forces were using the instrumented test ranges in the trailing portion of the Verge as they worked up for Dulinor's final push against Lucan's Imperium.
+
* Virus reached Verge sector some time around mid-1130. No one knows exactly when. By 312-1130 it had reached Sestao in the Great Rift.

Verge Sector is a frontier sector lying on the very edge of the Great Rift. It is sometimes referred to as being Within the Claw.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

Verge sector is managed as part of the Domain of Ilelish despite being outside the traditional four sector footprint of the Domain. Verge sector in turn manages those parts of Reft Sector on the rimward/trailing side of the Great Rift[1]. This jurisdictional control includes Arcrant, Limon, and Moibin subsectors of Reft Sector.

Limited evidence of Ancients activity exists within the sector.

The sector was initially settled by the Vilani during the Ziru Sirka and later came under the control of the Solomani during the Rule of Man. It suffered regression during the Long Night, eventually being absorbed by the young Third Imperium.

The sector was initially surveyed during the Imperial First Survey.

 • First Survey primary data regarding the sector was very fragmented.
 • The data drew heavily on pre-Long Night records and the accounts of independent explorers within the region.

The sector was extensively surveyed during the Imperial Second Survey.

Astrographic Features & Trade Routes[edit]

The following astrographic and commercial data regarding the sector has been determined:

Stellar Distribution[edit]

A basic map showing the distribution and size of stars within Verge Sector.

 • The color corresponds to the visible color of the star, which links to its spectral classification.
 • The size as shown indicates both the physical size of the object and its relative brightness.

Note that the stars as depicted are representative. Any star, no matter what its size, is a mere speck within the hex it occupies.

 • Ordinary main sequence stars can barely be seen from even a hex away.
 • Huge, intensely luminous giant stars can be seen from across the sector and far beyond.

Relative to other nearby sectors, Verge Sector contains an unusually high number of small dim red main sequence stars.

 • Experts on such matters believe that this phenomena is related to the presence and nature of the Great Rift.
 • Compact star systems with tidally locked worlds orbiting a fraction of an AU apart are common around such stars.

Rifts & Voids[edit]

The sector lies on the trailing side of the Great Rift.

 • The rift hinders travel and commerce within the region.
 • It has placed a boundary on Imperial settlement and expansion within the area.
 • Due to its position relative to the Rift, the region is sometimes referred to as being Within The Claw[2].

Trade Routes[edit]

A number of trade routes exist within this area. Of these, the most important are:

The Great Ilelish Main[edit]

The Great Ilelish Main has 104 member worlds and runs between Verge and Ilelish Sectors.

 • Worlds lying on the Main are highlighted in green.
 • Tripolis, the capital of Verge Sector, is marked in red.

The Sirim Loop[edit]

The Sirim Loop has 38 member worlds and runs along the edge of the Great Rift.

 • Worlds lying on the Loop are highlighted in tan.
 • Sirim, the namesake of the Main, is marked in red.

Nuzuu Jump Bridge[3][edit]

There is rumored to be a deep space fuel cache located within empty hex 2607 of Nuzuu Subsector, allowing jump-1 vessels to cross between the Nuzuu Main and the Sirim Loop.

Most believe this to be a myth, an Old Spacer's Tale.

It is most commonly believed to be a facility operated by one or more corporations and kept secret to give them an immense advantage over their commercial rivals.

 • This would appear to be counterintuitive: if such a link between the two Mains did exist, openly advertising its presence and allowing merchant vessels passage would likely generate far more income and prestige for interested parties than keeping it a secret.
 • Khaaru Bulk, an important local logistics corporation, is particularly associated with these stories.

The immediate environs of the Jump Bridge:

Chart Nuzuu Jump Bridge Basic.png
(Chart sourced from Traveller Map)

If it does exist, the chances of a vessel blindly jumping into hex 2607 and stumbling across it are miniscule. A hex is vast, many light years across, and any signals or emissions produced by the facility would be indistinguishable from background noise beyond a few hundred AU. Any vessel accessing the Jump Bridge would need exact jump coordinates and some kind of security clearance.

The Vilani Main[edit]

The 985 system-long Vilani Main, the largest chain of systems in the Imperial region, is the oldest, richest, and most cohesive section of the Imperium. Few of its worlds gave up interstellar travel during the Long Night. The Main spans nearly 1,000 star systems and links the nearly 11,000 planets that orbit within them.

Chart Vilani Main Basic.png
(Chart sourced from Traveller Map)

The Main extends rimward and spinward from Windhorn Sector and Vland Sector, just touching on Core and Dagudashaag Sectors, following the edge of the Great Rift through Gushemege, dominating the rimward part of Reft Sector, and terminating in the coreward parts of Verge and Ilelish Sectors.

Verge Sector contains eight worlds that are members of the Main, all lying along the coreward edge of Arlumer Subsector.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Historical Era: Rebellion and The Collapse[edit]

As news of Dulinor's ascendance to the Iridium Throne reached Verge sector, most of the population was enthusiastic regarding the changes promised by Dulinor. However, after five years of unremitting warfare many of the worlds in the Verge had grown disenchanted with the never-ending demands for more ships, more troops, and more taxes levied against them by Dulinor's Federation of Ilelish.

 • By late 1121, many of the senior nobility of the Verge had decided that Dulinor's promises of a new and better Imperium would never happen.
 • Protests on several Verge worlds were put down by Federation forces, sometimes violently. On 172-1122 Analea Mekatan, senior chamberlain of Turin announced the succession of the Verge and the formation of the Verge Combine. The Combine was born with a shattered economy, a drained military, but with hope for a brighter future.
 • Tiawan is one of nineteen high population worlds in Verge Sector, three of which are located in the Great Rift.
 • On 192-1122, battle was joined.
 • Dulinor ordered his forces to abstain from military action against the Verge.
 • A period of tit for tat raiding ensued.
 • By 1125 the region was peaceful enough that Dulinor's daughter Isis visited Tripolis. By late 1127 Federation naval forces were using the instrumented test ranges in the trailing portion of the Verge as they worked up for Dulinor's final push against Lucan's Imperium.
 • Virus reached Verge sector some time around mid-1130. No one knows exactly when. By 312-1130 it had reached Sestao in the Great Rift.
