Articles for Review[edit]

You sent me the following list of articles via email. I'm copying the list here so I can mark the articles as reviewed and let you, and your team, know when you can start the translations.

New items added to the list for when it is possible to review them --Sugaar (talk) 12:50, 10 September 2020 (EDT)

Publications[edit]

Also, The Versions of Traveller page could probably do with a one-line note about your company's translation efforts for the Mongoose products.BackworldTraveller (talk) 12:45, 5 September 2020 (EDT)

If you're right. I am going to introduce a line in the discussions on those pages. Thank you.--Sugaar (talk) 06:45, 6 September 2020 (EDT)

Side effect[edit]

Note: If a page is marked for translation, and another edit occurs to the base page, the marked version is displayed in English NOT the latest version. (This may return to normal after translation occcurs...don't know) BackworldTraveller (talk) 12:56, 5 September 2020 (EDT)

If a page has changes, the message to translate it changes, advising that it must be marked again for translation.--Sugaar (talk) 13:02, 5 September 2020 (EDT)

External links[edit]

When you add an external link, the tool asks to answer a question in a box at the top in order to verify that you are not a bot. However, when entering the translation of a section that has an external link, it cannot ask that question and it will not allow you to save the translation (the external link must be removed). The error it gives is generic, but we have verified that it occurs for that reason. Is there any way to fix it? --Sugaar (talk) 16:29, 7 September 2020 (EDT)

Notes on "Versiones de Traveller" Translation[edit]

  • Where a link is translated the link breaks because the page name breaks. e.g. Third Imperium changed to Tercer Imperio.
Solutions?
  1. Use Tercer Imperio. This way, if the article does not exist in the user's language, it displays the English version.--Sugaar (talk) 07:51, 6 September 2020 (EDT)
  • "Category:" entries get translated to "Categoria:". This breaks the categorisation process and some of the template processing that relies on the magic word "Category:".
Solutions?
  1. Don't translate categories
This is the correct solution, please don't translate the category links. "Category:" is a special wiki term, and the category names don't link by different versions. Tjoneslo (talk) 08:59, 6 September 2020 (EDT)
Agree. I will emphasize it in the group and add it to our instructions. Thank you.--Sugaar (talk) 13:09, 6 September 2020 (EDT)
  • "Template:" entries get translated and thus aren't found. e.g. Advanced was translated to Avanzado
Solutions?
  1. Don't translate template names
Some investigation on template translation would be needed to see how that works
  2. Duplicate the templates in Spanish
You can create the Template:Avanzado as a redirect to the English language template and it correctly includes the original template in the article. This requires creating all the templates we use as Spanish language names. It would be better not to translate the template names. .
The other concern will be that the text generated by the templates will not be translated. Which means going through the templates and translating all of them. And many of the templates query data from other templates, which means they also need to be translated.... Tjoneslo (talk) 08:59, 6 September 2020 (EDT)

Translation Context[edit]

Since Sugaar Editorial is publishing Mongoose Traveller in Spanish, should there not be a mention of this in the English Versions of Traveller page itself - which is then translated and puts the translation into context in the Spanish translation?

Pages with metadata[edit]

Some pages are marked as having a "metadata" template which links that page to data about the page.

There are two uses for metadata pages:

  1. For an explanation about how the information in the page was derived
  2. For additional data about the thing described in the page

In the former case, the translation of the metadata is, arguably, not relevant to the translation, but may be relevant to the translator.

In the latter case, the metadata is pertinent to the page user.

The wiki may need to separate the two types of metadata so that the translation process works well.

To be discussed?

Sugaar Editorial[edit]

Can you check that what is on this page (Sugaar Editorial) is accurate as my Spanish is terrible! BackworldTraveller (talk) 03:54, 6 September 2020 (EDT)

I see it very well. Thank you very much. Could you send the images to someone who does have permissions to upload them?--Sugaar (talk) 06:45, 6 September 2020 (EDT)
Thanks! Tjoneslo (talk) has solved the problem and I can now upload files. I charge them.--Sugaar (talk) 14:02, 6 September 2020 (EDT)
I don't know how to manage de BookImageList, but you can see them here: Special:ListFiles --Sugaar (talk) 14:31, 6 September 2020 (EDT)
The Template:BookImageList relies on creating the articles for each book in the Ludography, including the use of the Template:InfoboxBook2. When you create the article for each book with the images, the template gets populated automatically. Tjoneslo (talk) 16:49, 6 September 2020 (EDT)
Okay, thank you. I will follow the example created by BackworldTraveller and I will add the titles little by little. --Sugaar (talk) 06:02, 7 September 2020 (EDT)

Translated Books[edit]

Hi

I have set up a framework for the Sugaar Traveller: Manual Básico. If you could complete the details that would look better (Author/Credits and ISBN missing). The template can be repeated for the other works. Given the details that are required it may be better if you did that rather than me asking you all the time - and a description of the content in Spanish is probably appropriate which I could not write.

You should be able to see the work now in the Sugaar Editorial page. This is driven by the infobox that is completed at the top of each page. It is also appearing in the New Traveller page for the same reason.

Thanks

BackworldTraveller (talk) 02:40, 7 September 2020 (EDT)

Thank you, BackworldTraveller. I will use this page as template in order to create the rest of works. --Sugaar (talk) 06:19, 7 September 2020 (EDT)
