System Data[edit]

Kavell-Uravan System[edit]

The primary is Kavell, an ordinary orange main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.064 Sols, a mass of 0.5376 Sols, and a diameter of 778,000 km. (I) Uravan orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (II) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world, (III) a dense atmosphere stormworld, and (IV) a trace atmosphere iceworld form the inner region of the outer system. Orbital positions (V) through (X) are unavailable due to the presence of the companion star. (XI) a thin atmosphere radworld, (XII) a ringed large gas giant, and (XIII) a vacuum iceworld form the outer part of the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Baleda Subsystem[edit]

The companion is Baleda, a red subdwarf star that orbits Kavell at 9.73 AU (orbital position (VIII), 1.46 billion km) and has an orbital period of 41 years 144 days. It has a luminosity of 0.0056 Sols, a mass of 0.124 Sols, and a diameter of 189,000 km. (II) a sparse icy planetoid belt, (III) a small ice giant, and (IV) a vacuum worldlet form the outer system – orbital position (I) is empty. The gas giant retains satellites.

Mainworld Data[edit]

(I) Uravan[edit]

(I) Uravan is designated the mainworld. It orbits Kavell at a mean distance of 0.14 AU (20.9 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 26 days 3 hours: it is tidally locked to Kavell. The axial tilt is 79 degrees. Uravan has a diameter of 10,033 km, a density of 4.99 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.71 G. The world is flexed by tidal forces and is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Thin, with a mean surface pressure of 0.64 bar and a composition of 77% nitrogen, 22% oxygen, and 1% argon, water vapour, carbon dioxide, neon and other trace gases. Approximately 62% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.5m. Mean surface temperature: 23°C. The atmosphere is active and strong weather systems driven by the star and the oceans sweep across the globe. The climate is seasonal.

Mainworld geography and topography[edit]

Total surface area: 316 million km², Water surface area: 196 million km², Land surface area: 120 million km².

Native lifeforms[edit]

Uravan has extensive native life. Their metabolic processes maintain a cycle of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

No information yet available.

World starport[edit]

Uravan has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level[edit]

Uravan possesses a Technology Level of TL–3.

World government[edit]

Uravan is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referendum, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.

World military[edit]

There is a pool of 100 battalions available for military service. Most warbands and militia companies are small, localized units. Each of the major houses maintains an elite battalion of household guards at a high level of readiness. They are fully trained, equipped and well disciplined. No single house can muster more than twenty battalions at full strength. Assassins and covert operations with small teams of commandos dominate most political competition.

World culture[edit]

There are six ancient royal families on this world that date back to the founding and first landing. Each specializes in a particular area of economic necessity. They are all hugely wealthy and powerful by local standards. All citizens can vote and elect representatives to the world council. The governing body has final say on matters of global import. Laws, justice and the supervision of the economy falls to them. Local authority depends more to whose territory you happen to be in at the time. Each house is distinguished by certain colors, uniforms, badges, banners and coats of arms. Each household has a strict limit on troop strength they can muster and field. The open warfare of the past has settled into elaborate court intrigue and maneuvering. Plots within plots and wheels within wheels. Small social blunders and scandals can ruin careers. Rumors and gossip are deadly. One house tends to be most noble, brave in bearing and idealistic. One house is more ruthless and aggressive. One is more free spirited and holds to free will. One is more dour and devout, holy and humble. Another serves as the guardians of ancient traditions and sacred relics. One is regal, brilliant scientists, inventors, and the planetary engineers. These tendencies and traditions tend to result in the minor crises and conflicts with rivalries which make public life so dramatic and tense. The rank and file generally steer clear. A free press and a strongly held demand for transparent governing has lead for the need to be very careful in word and deed in public under constant surveillance and critique. None of the major houses are allowed to own nor interfere with public media outlets. Many view the rising and falling fortunes as a form of entertainment as long as their general standards of living remain unaffected. Endless alliances and betrayals mark the tumultuous political careers. The upper and lower ruling committees of the world council have different term limits. The more powerful chamber serves for a shorter period, but the lesser powerful group is needed to get anything done and enacted.
