The Type TJ class Merchant is a TL–15 Merchant Vessel. It is also known as Frontier Merchant or Frontier Transport.
Description
The Type TJ class Merchant is externally identical to the Type TI class Merchant; internally, its only difference is the installation of Jump-6 drives and a reduced cargo capacity. While Type TI ships routinely cover backwater regions conducting trade and commerce, the Type TJ ships use their immense jump capacity to serve as clandestine Imperial couriers. The ship's transponder will show it to be a Type TI. Officially, the Type TJ does not exist.

The two classes of vessel are externally virtually identical.
Basic Ship Characteristics
Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (...of ten subcraft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (...thousands of tons) where necessary. History & Background
The Type TJ is covertly operated by Imperiallines, a sector-wide shipping company with facilities throughout the Imperial-dominated regions of the Spinward Marches. It serves as a fast courier and acts on behalf of the OPT, the Emperor's personal intelligence service. Very similar vessels are operated by a number of other front companies throughout Imperial space.
Although their machinery and equipment is kept in excellent running order, Type TJ class merchants are dirty, shabby and patched, often sporting repairs, retrofitted parts, and replacement hull panels. This is deliberately done in order to help camouflage their identity.
All crew who serve on Type TJs must be sanctioned by Imperiallines. This is company policy and is strictly enforced.
Class Naming Practice/s & Peculiarities
Vessel Peculiarities: The design is not fitted with inertial compensators. The vessel is not equipped with active sensors, entirely relying on assive sensor systems. The vessel transmits a false transponder signal identifying it as a Type TI class Merchant. The transponder is reconfigurable. The vessels are very secure: hijackings are almost unknown.
Class Naming Practice/s: Type TJs are not named; they carry only serial numbers.
