History & Background (Dossier)

This heavily industrialised member of the Florian League is the most important world in the subsector.

Trossachs is one of the Florian League's three major production centers, creating industrial goods for the entire League.

  • Much of the vast planet’s surface is covered in factories, mines or cyclopean barracks for the billions of Feskals who labor here.
  • Trossachs’ natural ecosystem was long ago erased by the expansion of the factories and the planet teeters on the edge of complete environmental collapse.

World Starport

Trossachs has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Technology Level

Trossachs possesses a Technology Level of TL–12 or TL-C in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government

Trossachs is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.

As a part of the Florian League, councilors (here technocratic overseers) are chosen from among the Barnai populace by lottery.

Law

The government is supported by a standard bureaucracy, which also administers the Floriani legal system. This legal system is similar to Imperial law, with a judge (from the bureaucracy) and a jury of five. However, there are no set crimes and punishments: unlike in the Imperium, where one attempts to discover whether a specific crime was committed, the Floriani system tries to determine if what was done constitutes a crime; depending on context it might not be.

Population

20 billion. Most are Floriani, but the original colonists here were Vilani, today happily incorporated into the League.

Languages

Economy

The Florian currency is the tlientir.

The League imposes a moderate income tax on all citizens and resident non-citizens. This tax is supplemented by various fees paid to the government for services.

World Culture

The diminutive Barnai are the leaders and intellectuals; the hulking Feskals the labour. Feskals are obedient to Barnai.

Barnai live a life of leisure for their first 16 years. Schooling consists of directed personal study, with each student pursuing individual interests. Once a Barnai reaches maturity at the age of 20, they are expected to perform some sort of public service for a few years.
