Notes (2019)

MegaTravller most often eschewed CT's conventions tons and listed displacement in kiloliters.
To convert, do the following:

  1. 1 kiloliter = 1 cubic meter
  2. 1 ton = 13.5 cubic meters = 13.5 kiloliters
  3. To figure out tonnage in CT / HG terms, divide the kiloliters quantity by 13.5

Notes (2007)

The origin of the Traveller displacement ton derives from the starship maps produced in early Traveller products:

  • Snapshot used 1.5 meter squares for mapping combats, specifically the interior of starships.
  • Two of these squares, with a 3 meter deck separation was defined as a "ton" of space.
  • It was later discovered that 13.5 cubic meters is about the same as a ton of liquid hydrogen.
