It is a member of Third Imperium in the Trin's Veil Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector and in the Domain of Deneb. Thornnastor, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world. This world contains an Imperial Scout Base, capable of handling Scout Service starships and personnel.

Most of Thornnastor’s water forms a thin surface layer, which turns much of the planet into a steamy swamp. The water in these swamps has a low salt content and supports plant life, which in turn allows for a diverse biosphere.
