The Termagant class Air Raft is a TL-11 Armored Fighting Vehicle.

Description (Specifications)

The Termagant class Air Raft, TL-11: The vehicle's 200 tons of crystaliron armor, strains the gav modules and available hull volume. As a result this vehicle is actually slower than some of its contemporaries. This is intended to ensure all aspect, uniform protection superior to starship hull metal. This design is sealed with life support for the crew and passengers in vacuum and protected forces roles. A larger fusion power plant is installed for movement and to power the fusion cannon. There is a TAC missile launcher rail on the chassis deck. The single passenger has full life support (proof against CBR/NBC threats) and can exit via an airlock in the left side of the vehicle.

Basic Vehicle Characteristics

Following the Imperial Army and IISS Universal Vehicle Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (of ten craft) carried on the vehicle when applicable. Tonnage on the universal vehicle profile is shown in kilotons (thousands of tons) where necessary.

TAC Missile

There is a single 278.85kg capacity launch rail on the chassis deck. The missile uses a massive 24kg 30cm HEAP 59 warhead and it takes six crew members to manually reload these missiles if additional rounds are available, or carried in the cargo space. The homing missiles struggle to achieve intercepts against vehicles protected with advanced ECM abilities. A single homing missile is included with the purchase price.

Characteristics: HEAP Warhead Missiles
Type Range Price
Homing HEAP 59, 85.54km or 75.54km +10 speed DM Cr697.85

History & Background (Dossier)

The Termagant class Air Raft was designed and manufactured at TL–11, these vehicles are manufactured for the Sorority of Hygiea in Mavuzog and Theta Borealis Sectors. They have TL–11 direct fire control systems for the heavy energy weapon. The name is a misnomer, because this is a Grav Tank and not a simple civilian Air Raft. The fusion gun is very powerful, but the massive recoil necessitated a hull mounted weapons carriage. A single massive TAC missile rail is the only other weapon. These large missiles carry the best warhead available but are limited by the guidance package. Plans for more varieties of missiles are being researched. The missiles out range the on board RADAR. The crew can't manually reload the missiles, as they are too large. Support vehicles with extra missiles and cranes are co-located with HQ command units. So relays must be established to fully exploit the weapons extreme range potential. This platform has no other weapon systems. It carries a very powerful fusion power plant with almost half of the power going to the fusion gun. The grav module array is limited which curtails speed. Their favorite tactic is to execute long range pop-ups, therefore the designers felt that avionics for fast NOP flight were unnecessary. The electronic suite is very simple and rudimentary, spartan in fact. This lowers the maintenance requirements but limits their capabilities in the field. There was a cost savings associated with this design. The layout is similar to a tank hunter/self propelled gun. They like to ambush enemy vehicles from extreme range. The impact radius and penetration of the massive fusion weapon is unmatched by local designs. The original civilian air raft that inspired this design had four seats, was open topped and carried 4 metric tons of cargo. The cargo capacity is generous. The dismount usually employs remote sensors and additional mines and other disposable weapon systems to augment the tank platoon's fire power. Tank companies are composed of twelve vehicles with 48 crew. Additional support vehicles are attached from battalion HQ. The company consists of two platoons of 24 crew and six tanks.
