Remove text

I propose we remove "This list of sources was used by the Traveller Wiki Editorial Team and individual contributors to compose this article." and "The page history lists all of the contributions." from this template. Keeping only the required copyright statement.

The two sentences you reference were added make explicit the wiki processing around how changes are managed for people not familiar with Mediawiki. It was also in response to the complaint that the "Traveller Wiki Editorial Team" should not be listed for the source each article, it is captured in the page history.

It's also the case that if the statement is just the copyright statement, and we continue to allow the individual contributors to add their name to the sources template, it means their contributions are owned by them. It changes the who owns their contributions. We really want the CC-BY-SA license for the individual contributions to remain. So trying to balance all these things requires some delicate language. Feels contrary after time in en.wikipedia.org. Like, hey, I’ll piss on this one and mark it as mine. If I delete all of Editor X’s contributions and replace it with better or worse prose who is to know that it is gone? Only the history page ‘cause nothing is gonna erase them from the sources? Bleck. There are three purposes for the sources box. The header was written to make these explicit.

• List of the published sources (books and websites) for the content of the article. Unlike Wikipedia, the Traveller wiki allows, and in some cases encourages, direct copy quotes from the published material. The statement acknowledges that we're doing this consciously and with permission. The list also exists for writers to research background, per Traveller:About
• The Traveller wiki, unlike Wikipedia, allows direct publishing. Writers can write new material and directly publish in the Wiki. The policy of allowing contributor attribution is a way of encouraging this. The idea is to have material to allow them to publish in other, more official, publications.
• A statement to acknowledge that editors of the wiki may have rewritten the content of the above source information to better fit the design and goals of the Traveller Wiki.

Untitled

This looks good. Will this support 1 or 2 sources? Do we need to extend it up to a reasonable number e.g. 5? Dcorrin 19:29, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

The template can support up to any number we want, I just built it with 2 for testing purposes. I was going to use 7 as the final number. I'll try it next with the {{Sources|1|2|3...}} template. Tjoneslo 21:37, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

There is a limitaion of the template parser that does not allow us to use the {{Source|1|2|3..}} format. You will need to type {{Sources|Source1=1|Source2=2...}} sorry. The good news is it will parse templates as sources making thing much easier. Tjoneslo 02:14, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

I've updated the template to hold up to 7 sources and modified the text. Dan, do you have a copy of the "Expanded licence agreement" with Marc that you can post?

Hello,
I have set up a traveller Wiki, and would like permission to add entire entries of the library data type. This would be more than just the fair-use for just these types of entries. The goal is to provide a real computer interface for what players could expect to find on board their ships.
The intention is not to provide vast quantites of data, or provide wholesale sections of books for use, but to copy sufficent of atricles to provide a summary. However the library data supplements would likely have their entire contents copied.
The traveller wiki is at http://traveller.wikicities.com.

The text should not read that the article was printed/published what have you, it should indiate that the contents are taken from (or an exerpt of), as we may or may not have the entire artilce.

How about something like: "This contents of this article was taken from the following copyrighted sources and used under licence from Far Future Enterprises and/or by permission of the author."
