This template is for use in displaying Universal World Profiles, plural. Different eras, particularly the changes from classic era through the hard times and into the new era, have changes to the starport, population, government, law level, and tech level.

Description (Specifications)

This template displays these changes in one table. Only the UWP's included will be displayed in the infobox.

Features of this template include: World Habitability is color coded in the planet title. Each era included can have its own travel zone. If details are know about the system (stellar types, Belts, gas giant counts) these can be included. If there is a full article on the system, a link to that article can be included. And a popup box containing the expanded UWP descriptions will be shown when you put the mouse cursor over the UWP in the infobox table.

Overall Template & Explanatory Table

This is the basic template code:

{{World|TBD|Zowie|Zowie|7777}}
UPPER The name of the world goes in this area in standard Traveller format:
  • World name
  • Sector name
  • Subsector name
  • 4-number coordinate code for each sector
image = UPPER This area is not active yet, but could be used to insert a planet image in the future.

uc = UPPER This is the time period or mileu inserted from the list below.
popc = PBG Sequence Population: A 1-number code
zonec = green UPPER Travel Zone (...must be lower case)
u1= SPACER Only used to separate UPPER from LOWER areas. Doesn't do anything otherwise.
alg = LOWER Allegiance Codes (AC): 4-letter sequence
class = NOTES for Trade Codes LOWER See UWP: Only used to keep a record. Doesn't do anything functional.
  • Insert two letters trade codes (1st letter capital, 2nd letters lower case, spaces between sets, slashes between TC groupings)
trade = LOWER A two letter code that colors the entry. Not all codes give a color. The default is green. Please see more below in article.
climate = TBD COG Sequence Climate
  • Still under development.
  • Two-letter codes are used: Tp = Temperate World
orbit = TBD COG Sequence Orbit: Orbital position of the mainworld or world associated with the UWP
  • Still under development.
gravity = TBD COG Sequence Gravity
  • Still under development.
worlds = TBD T5 Second Survey Data The total number of worlds within the star system.
  • Many worlds do not have this data entered.
impoex = {?} T5 Core Book Extension Importance Extension (Ix)
econex = (???+?) T5 Core Book Extension Economic Extension (Ex)
cultex = [????] T5 Core Book Extension Cultural Extension (Cx)
nblty = LOWER Nobility Code: A sequence of letters corresponding to mobility codes on the page of the same name.
  • Sequences consist of upper and lower class letters in a sequenced code.
bases = LOWER Base Codes (BC): Entered as 1 or more letter codes. N = Naval Base
  • Some multiple letter codes exist as well.
primary = Star or Multiple Stars The star or stars in the system.
  • Entered as "M2 V" for s single star indicating standard formatting as explained in the article: Star.
  • The maximum number of stars is six within Charted Space.
  • Very few systems have more than three stars.
belts = PBG Sequence Planetoid Belt: A 1-number code
GGcount = PBG Sequence Gas Giant: A 1-number code

primary
The primary (and any companion) star types
belts
Number of planetoid belts in the system, from the PBG.
GGcount
Number of gas giants in the system, from the PBG.

Other notes

The UWP format must be in the standard 7-1 format ("A000000-T"). The UWP template uses Template: UWPexpand (and a css trick) to enable a formated box which pops up when move your mouse cursor over the UWP. This box contains the expanded text for the UWP, for those of us who haven't yet memorized the UWP codes.

The css trick to create a formatted pop-up box in contained MediaWiki:Common.css, and the four div.UWPInfo statements. To make this work you need to include the following in your page: <div class=UWPInfo>Text to be visible<span>Text to be in the popup</span></div>. The two sets of text can include any HTML code.

History & Background (Dossier)

This template was first created in 2007 CE by Thomas Jones-Low.

  • It has been modified several times since.
