This template produces the category based upon the leading (first) character in the title. This template is used in the Category: Category templates to automatically set the lead character template.
There are two exceptions to simply keeping the first character. Numbers are collapsed into Category:0. Non-alphanumeric characters are collapsed into Category:?.
