Teilhard is a nonindustrial world, that requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.

  • In a technological universe, societies without industrial capability generally suffer as nearly all manufactured and high tech goods must be brought in at significant cost.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the Euxene Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.

Mainworld Data

The Teilhard main world is a standard-sized rocky planet with a diameter of 11,200km. The atmospheric blanket is deep, and is comprised of a breathable, if dense, nitrogen-oxygen mix.

Mainworld Geography & Topography

Teilhard is an older world that still retains significant tectonic activity. The surface is 90% covered in a world-ocean, with 5 significant landmasses.

World Starport

Teilhard has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

Teilhard Highport is a Good quality starport based on standard Solomani designs. The Teilhard island-nations have extensive treaties defining how expenses, income, and management functions are divided at the station. The population on board the high-port is always exactly numerically split by nationality, and is almost always made up of elite military personnel.

It has sustained some damage in recent years by bolder-than-average corsair raiding parties.

According to the Traveller News Service, from eyewitness accounts, the corsairs used one very large vessel, roughly equivalent to a large escort or a destroyer. A wild rumor claims that the corsair was a Confederation Navy warship, but this has not been confirmed and seems very unlikely in any case.

Teilhard is a balkanized world, with each island-nation maintaining a separate downport.

World Technology Level

Teilhard possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government

Teilhard has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.

Major nations:

  • Teilhard: Most advanced technologically (Tech-A+)
  • Armstrong: Largest landmass, highest population, largest military
  • Buzdrin: Highest quality downport, most extensive undersea works.
  • Picard: Euxene-french speaking nation. Mountainous region with good wines.
  • Zepher: Relatively isolated. Windy island chain, known for "good surfing" (sport).

World Law Level

Teilhard has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Personal concealable firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited. As a result of historical and ongoing cooperation, competitions, and occasional open warfare, the general law-level of Teilhard is relatively low, allowing citizens to openly carry civilian weaponry with appropriate licensing. Visitors are expected to register any weapons at the local downport before entering the public areas. Military weaponry is forbidden off-ship.

World Military

Each island-nation maintains a self-defense ground force, and a wet navy. Multi-mach jet military aircraft capably patrol each landmass, aided by refueling craft.

The Highport is defended by a planetary Space Force. Each nation has contributed 2 SDCs of national design to defend the Highport, and patrol the system. In reality, these craft spend much of their time mapping the planetoid belts, searching for valuable mining locations, and occasionally refueling at one of the 3 gas giant sub-systems.

There is now intense discussion regarding the urgent upgrade of the Highport defenses.

World Economy

Agriculture and aquaculture are major industries worldwide. Ocean-floor mining produces substantial amounts of metals and ores. There is a limited heavy industrial base, and associated downstream industries. National universities are in "coopetition" to develop or otherwise acquire advanced technologies.

Trade Data

Local foodstuffs, precious metals, tourism.

World Culture

The people of Teilhard have long worked in a state of coopitition, both cooperating with and competing against each other, using an informally formal set of rules-of-engagement/chivalry. The nature of the world itself has made open warfare itself difficult, as the statement "good fences make good neighbors" seems to hold true; vast oceans make for good fencing.

Historically on Teilhard, warfare has been synonymous with wet-Naval warfare. It evolved from surface warfare to a silent war beneath the waves, and then into a combination of wet-Naval warfare force projection and the struggle for Air Superiority. In most cases, the navies have their hands full just dealing with the sea and the weather of Teilhard itself. There are many actual stories and many more glorified VR presentations of navies saving each other in times of dire need. Of late, the navies' military exploits have been self-limited to energetic sabre-rattling. The insults are amusing on occasion, the populi agree.

The very name of the planet comes from ancient Anglic terms for "hard work". From that, the populi have a solid history for perseverance and precise efforts. The common vision for the world-culture seems to be an effort to rise in sophistication in terms of Solomani culture, technologies, and military self-sufficiency.

Urbanization

Each nation has well-developed infrastructure, landroads, defined gravpaths, arcologies. Undersea arcologies exist, but most are in a development stage.
