Tasak is a poor, non-agricultural and nonindustrial hellworld with a population struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.
- Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often form intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
- It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Orret Subsector of Far Home Sector.
Astrography and Planetology
This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.
- The Tasak system is a part of the Pador-Aredian Cluster.

System Data
Musan-Tasak System
The primary is Musan, an ordinary red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.0136 Sols, a mass of 0.3626 Sols, and a diameter of 551,000 km. (I) Tasak, designated the mainworld, (II) a very thin atmosphere radworld, (III-I) a ringed exotic atmosphere bigworld, (III-II) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (IV) a trace atmosphere iceworld, and (V) a vacuum worldlet form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.
Mainworld Data
(I) Tasak
(I) Tasak is designated the mainworld. It orbits Musan at a mean distance of 0.15 AU (22.4 million km), within the outer system. It has an orbital period of 35 days 6 hours: it is tidally locked to Musan. The axial tilt is 0 degrees. Tasak has a diameter of 6,230 km, a density of 3.83 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.34 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Musan cause frequent geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Very Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.32 bar and a composition of 82% nitrogen (N2), 15% abiotic oxygen (O2), 1% argon (Ar), 1% carbon dioxide (CO2), and 1% Xenon (Xe), water vapor (H2O), carbon monoxide (CO), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the relatively high levels of background radiation: emission rates exceed 20 rads per hour. Approximately 22% of the surface is covered in sheets of water ice and lakes of water kept liquid by heat generated by radiological activity. Mean surface temperature: -35°C. The climate is rated as Cold and is static, with no seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is sluggish and weak weather systems driven by the star drift across the globe.
Mainworld Geography and Topography
Total surface area: 122 million km², Land surface area: 97 million km², Ice and water surface area: 27 million km².
- Oxygen contained deep within the world's interior is released by outgassing and serves to renew the atmosphere: it continuously reacts with surface materials and other atmospheric gases, gradually reducing the percentage of oxygen in the air.
- Tasak is a Twilight Zone World.
- The world experiences libration, which causes the star to move in the sky and periodically rise and fall above the horizon in the twilight region.
Native Lifeforms
Musan-Tasak System
No world in the system is known to have native life.
History & Background (Dossier)
No information yet available.
World starport
Tasak has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.
World technology level
Tasak possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Advanced automobiles.
- Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
- Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
- Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
World government
Tasak is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be monarchy, with titles passed to family members. Or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Or the organization may be more typical organization with positions of power inherited.
