Taraque is a poor, low-population hellworld with a population less than 10,000 sophonts struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.
- Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often form intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
- This is a "low technology" world with technology competencies well below technology standards for Charted Space.
- It is a member of the Worlds of The Leader in the Arodir Subsector of Far Home Sector, which is part of the Distant Fringe.

Gysoko-Taraque System
The primary is Gysoko, an ordinary orange main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.08 Sols, a mass of 0.570 Sols, and a diameter of 788,000 km. (I-I) a very thin atmosphere hospitable world, and (I-II) Taraque, designated the mainworld, have a shared orbit within the habitable zone. (II) a thin atmosphere hospitable world, (III) a trace atmosphere iceworld, (IV) a sparse stony planetoid belt, (V) a sparse icy planetoid belt, (VI) a ringed large gas giant, (VII) a small gas giant, and (VIII) a vacuum worldlet form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

(I-II) Taraque
(I-II) Taraque is designated the mainworld. It orbits Gysoko at a mean distance of 0.24 AU (35.9 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 56 days 21 hours and a rotation period of 22.5 hours. The axial tilt is 14 degrees. Taraque has a diameter of 9,743 km, a density of 4.97 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.69 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.51 bar and a composition of 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, and 1% argon, water vapour, carbon dioxide, neon and other trace gases. The atmospheric taint is caused by the relatively high levels of background radiation: emission rates exceed 1 rad per hour. Approximately 9% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: tidal ranges are negligible. Mean surface temperature: 28°C. The atmosphere is active and moderate weather systems driven by the star work across the globe. The climate is seasonal.

Native Lifeforms
Despite the marginal conditions Taraque has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find even a minimal trace of water and nutrients. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.

Taraque has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
