System Data

Devian-Aberra-Taranil System

The primary is Devian, an ordinary orange main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.352 Sols, a mass of 0.774 Sols, and a diameter of 1.168 million km. The companion is Aberra, a dwarf star. It has a luminosity of 0.00003 Sols, a mass of 1.11 Sols, and a diameter of 8,500 km. The two stars have a mean separation of 0.24 AU (35.9 million km) and orbit a barycenter located at 0.17 AU (25.4 million km) and have an orbital period around one another of 4 days 22 hours. Orbital positions (I) and (II) are unavailable due to the presence of the companion star. (III) Taranil orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (IV-I) an exotic atmosphere hospitable world, (IV-II) a sparse stony planetoid belt, (V) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (VI) a sparse icy planetoid belt, (VII-I) a trace atmosphere iceworld, (VII-II) a ringed very large gas giant, and (VIII) a dense icy planetoid belt form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data

(III) Taranil

(III) Taranil is designated the mainworld. It orbits Devian and Aberra at a mean distance of 0.72 AU (107.7 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 162 days 14 hours and a rotation period of 13 days 5 hours. The axial tilt is 31 degrees. Taranil has a diameter of 9,813 km, a density of 6.29 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.88 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Thin, with a mean surface pressure of 0.73 bar and a composition of 77% nitrogen (N2), 21% abiotic oxygen (O2), 1% argon (Ar), and 1% xenon (Xe), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Approximately 64% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.3m. Mean surface temperature: 23°C. The atmosphere is active and strong weather systems driven by the star and the oceans sweep across the globe. The climate is seasonal.

Satellites

Taranil retains two natural satellites, a cratered vacuum worldlet named Anomaly and an extremely dense vacuum worldlet named Monolith:

(IIIa) Anomaly (UWP Y100000-0, orbiting at 35 Diameters/345,000 km)
(IIIb) Monolith (UWP YS00000-0, orbiting at 75 Diameters/740,000 km)

Mainworld Geography and Topography

Total surface area: 303 million km², Land surface area: 194 million km², Water surface area: 109 million km².

  • The oxygen in the atmosphere is abiotic in origin, produced by the photocatalytic reaction between the [extremely] high levels of UV energy radiating from the star and titanium dioxide (TiO2), which is found in surface minerals such as ilmenite.

Native Lifeforms

Devian-Aberra-Taranil System

No world in the system is known to have native life.

History & Background (Dossier)

No information yet available.

World starport

Taranil does not have a starport. The Class X Starport is an indication that no starport exists in the system. There are no facilities or services available, and no site marked for landing.

World technology level

Taranil possesses a Technology Level of TL–0.

  • These worlds often contain a Proto-Sophont species beginning to establish a nascent civilization and society.
  • This world is in its Alpha Period and has not yet been interfered with by a higher technology civilization.
  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Bodily communicative apparati, courier-runners, and smoke signals.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Bodily muscle.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Bodily locomotion, riding beasts, and litters or sedan chairs.
    • Water: Swimming, rafts, and canoes.
    • Air: Typically not available unless a bodily ability.

World government

Taranil has no central government for the world, an Anarchy. The largest governmental structure would be a family, tribe, or single clan. The largest group will be between 50 and 100 individuals, and there may be dozens to hundreds of them. This governmental structure can be stable over long periods of time if the population remains small or geographically separated.
