Sunburst Plant (Creature) Synopsis
Its most remarkable property is that when it is "startled" by a nearby presence, specifically by the capacitance of carbon-based life moving, they emit a several-second-long burst of ultraviolet light in response to the motion. The potential victim can avoid detection by moving slowly.
Sunburst plants originate on Wardn (Spinward Marches 1727).
Physiology & Ecology
This plant is a generally thick, blue-green cactus-like fern typically about two yards tall. Outdoors, sunbursts like dry climates best, but can operate in environments with a long dry season, hibernating during the wet ones.
Life Cycle & Reproduction
Light and fluffy, the seeds of a sunburst attract themselves to fur and cloth using a mild electrostatic charge. The seeds can be recognized by their small grey-brown tendrils that are attracted to dry matter.

History & Background (Dossier)
A ship environment is generally dry, and the seeds can travel far on pant legs. The plants themselves have reflective leaves that track to focus light on the stem. These leaves can make for very attractive ornaments.

The Travellers' Aid Society classifies sunburst plants as non-threatening to most sophonts and makes no special advisory regarding this organism.
