Starships are designed with the Classic Traveller format, using High Guard. |
The Star class Armored Merchant is a mercantile starship.
- It is a civilian ship and an Armored Merchant.
Description (Specifications)
It is a vessel with 1-G and J-3 performance with a streamlined cone hull.
- It carries very light armament and a commercial defensive suite.
- It ordinarily carries no subcraft, a ship's vehicles, and drones only when needed.
- It has a 8 sophont crew and no marines.
The Star class Armored Merchant is a fairly uncommon merchant ship found throughout Charted Space.
Using a 300-ton flattened cone hull (to provide better stabilization during atmospheric flight), the Star class armored merchant is capable of Jump-3 and 1G maneuver. The fuel tank is 99 tons, providing unlimited maneuvering and a 100-day range. The ship has fuel scoops installed for skimming gas giants and a purification plant to refine the fuel. Both of these are mounted in two three meter tall pods, one to port and one to starboard of the main deck.
The Star class merchant is 42 meters long, with a width of 27 meters tapering to 3 meters at the bow. Inertial compensators and an adjustable 0G to 2G floor field are installed. The bridge has a Model/3 fib optic ship computer installed.
The Star class has 13 staterooms, five reserved for the crew, although if no gunners are carried two more staterooms may be available for passengers. Ten low berths also carry passengers. The crew consists of a pilot/captain, a navigator, an engineer, a chief steward, a medic (who may also double as a steward), a chief gunner, and two gunners, one of whom may double as steward instead of the medic.
A standard Air/Raft is carried for ground transport duties. Cargo capacity is 50.0 tons.
Standard weapon installation is two triple beam turrets installed on the same pods as the fuel scoops. A chin mounted triple missile launcher is armed from an ordnance locker located just above it.

Basic Ship Characteristics
Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (...of ten subcraft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (...thousands of tons) where necessary. History & Background (Dossier)
Variants: The most notable variant of the Star class is a more specialized version. Dual fusion gun turrets replace the triple laser turrets. The computer is upgraded to a model/3 fib. This variation is commonly used in the squadron supply role.
