Sshkih is a poor, moderate population non-agricultural and pre-industrial hellworld with a population, over a hundred million, but not yet at a billion sophonts, struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.

• Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often form intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
• It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
• It is a world working towards greater industrial capability, but currently lacks an adequate population to expand its industrial sector.
• It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Sath Subsector of Far Home Sector.

• This world-system hosts a Military Base, usually associated with military ground forces, which may be located on or off-world.
• Warning: humans are not welcome within the Sath Alliance. Those few humans that venture into its territory are generally met with a hostile reception and are closely monitored at all times.

Ikhss-Sshkih System

The primary is Ikhss, a dim red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.0055 Sols, a mass of 0.302 Sols, and a diameter of 444,000 km. (I) a vacuum worldlet, (II) Hii'ssh, a small gas giant: Sshkih is its only major satellite and is designated the mainworld, (III) a trace atmosphere iceworld, (IV) a vacuum iceworld, and (V) a trace atmosphere iceworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

(II) Hii'ssh

(II) Hii'ssh is a small gas giant that orbits Ikhss at a mean distance of 0.33 AU (49.4 million km), within the habitable zone, and has an orbital period of 126 days. It has a diameter of 31,000 km and an atmosphere consisting of 91% hydrogen (H₂), 9% helium (He), and less than 1% methane (CH₄), carbon monoxide (CO), ammonia (NH₃), water vapor (H₂O) and other trace gases. It is a bland pale blue color with narrow bands of white high altitude clouds. It retains a single major satellite.

(IIa) Sshkih

(IIa) Sshkih is the only major moon of (II) Hii'ssh and is designated the mainworld. It orbits its parent world at a mean distance of 15 diameters (465,000 km), with an orbital period of 50 days 11 hours: it is tidally locked to Hii'ssh. The axial tilt is 1 degree relative to Hii'ssh. Sshkih has a diameter of 6,312 km, a density of 5.35 g/cm³ and a surface gravity of 0.48 G. Tidal stresses caused by the gravitational pull of Hii'ssh cause frequent geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Very Thin, Tainted, with a surface pressure of 0.12 bar and a composition of 84% nitrogen (N₂), 14% oxygen (O₂), 1% carbon dioxide (CO₂), 1% argon (Ar), methane (CH₄), azane (NH₃), water vapor (H₂O), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the low percentage of atmospheric oxygen, the very low surface pressure, and the low temperatures. Around 16% of the surface is covered in lakes of water kept liquid by geothermal activity: tidal ranges are negligible. Mean surface temperature: -73°C. The climate is rated as Very Cold and is static, with no seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is sluggish and very weak weather systems driven by the star drift across the globe.

Native Lifeforms

Sshkih, the mainworld, has primitive native life, entirely consisting of extremophile single-celled cyanobacteria-equivalents that can be found in every geologically active area on the world. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

No other world in the system is known to have native life.

World starport

Sshkih has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
