Square Mantas almost entirely subsist on a number of species of insects. In the wild, square mantas tend to float just under the surface of a pond or slow moving river, and snare bugs on the surface of the water.

Found during a survey of Rann (Solomani Rim 3106), these creatures were adapted as a form of natural insect repellant.
The locals use the Square Manta as a form of insect repellant by punching holes in the biopolymer and hanging them by rope to their bodies. The outer skin is tough enough to act as armor against primitive weapons. And the still living square manta consumes the insects that approach the wearer.
