Description (Specifications)[edit]
The names of these units often remain undisclosed or, when publicised, build a mystique that allows the owner to hide other related units in the shadows so created. Many Governments within the Imperium maintain their own Special Forces units in their Colonial Troops as do many Police Forces. Particularly at a planetary level, one Government's Special Forces are another's Guerrillas/Terrorists.
Special Forces may be deployed in many roles under many titles: -
- Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol
- Intelligence Gathering
- Counter-Insurgency
- Counter-Terrorism
- Hostage Rescue
- Sabotage
- Direct Action
- Covert Operations
Special Forces will often be trained to operate in:
- Difficult Terrain
- Steep or Broken Terrain e.g.
- Mountains
- Rifts & Cliffs
- Obstructed Terrain e.g.
- Underground
- Built Up Areas
- Forests & Jungles
- Steep or Broken Terrain e.g.
- Difficult Environments (see also Protected Forces)
- Underwater or in other liquids
- Corrosive or Insidious Atmospheres
- Extremes of Temperature
