A Spacer is a tough sophont who has chosen to live and work in hostile expanses of the void, space.
- They are often popularly referred to as star men, travellers, etc.
- The term most often refers to military men, sailors, or naval ratings.

The term has several meanings:
- Popular Spacer Definition: A number of old spacers popularly define themselves as sophonts who spend half their lives or more in space. [1]
- Military Definition - Spacer: Someone who serves in a (space) navy or works on am armed (star) ship. Naval Officer. Rating. Sailor (archaic).

Old Spacer's Tales: An Old Spacer's Tale is a legend, myth, or generally good story told by spacers. Such tales can be truthful, fictional, or somewhere in-between. They are primarily told for entertainment purposes, a way of passing the long hours spent in the lonely voids between worlds.
