Skanor

• This is a temperate world, with a climate of pleasant, average temperatures, considered to be an ideal or near-ideal environment by many different sophont species.
• It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Rigel Subsector of Rigel Sector.

Description

Skanor has an excellent starport with shipyards able of handling starships up to the Overhaul level, and provides Refined fuel. The main world is roughly 10,000 kilometers in diameter, and is a Medium terrestrial. The atmosphere has a pressure of 0.95 atmospheres. The atmosphere is a standard oxygen/nitrogen mix, which is breathable without assistance. The surface is roughly 40 percent surface water, which qualifies it as a Wet world world. The main world has a general population of approximately 1,000,000 local residents, which qualifies it as a Moderate population world. The local government is characterized as Charismatic Dictator, with government by a single leader enjoying the confidence of the citizens. Visitors may find the law moderately restrictive as all firearms except shotguns are regulated or restricted by local authorities. Technology is described as Imperial Maximum

History

The first recorded history of the Rigel Subsector was the arrival in the year of the third imperium 623 of Bart Skanos. He left the Anniversary Sector in the year 619, at the heights of the Imperial Civil War and the Second Frontier War, with three huge transport ships, 'The Captains Bathtub', 'Star Goat' and 'Telephone Sanitizer', and a collection of jump probes. The transport ships contained thousands of humans who felt that the Third Imperium was no longer a place that they wanted to live. Feeling their way coreward they covered 4 sectors in a 2 year journey, and arrived at a suitable planet which was called Skanor in his honour. There are now 11 planets in the Skania Pact, which is a loose alliance of independently governed planets in the sector.

Skanos sent the transport ships back to Anniversary and over the next 50 years not only did they they ferry millions of people to the Rigel Subsector, but countless other ships followed the trail of beacons that they had left on the route. Eventually the beacons power cells expired, and since the wars had ceased, the flow of people to the Rigel Subsector ceased.
There is now little to no traffic between the sectors.
