History & Background (Dossier)

The humans on Alterra were isolated during the Long Night and lost their sense of history and relationship to the wider universe. By the time they were recontacted in the first years of the Third Imperium, a popular belief system had arisen stating that Alterrans (humans) were the only intelligent life in the universe. Contact was thus received poorly, and the result was a nuclear war between local factions already on edge due to conflict over declining resources. The majority of the 400 million inhabitants died.

The Imperium avoided the devastated world in the aftermath, in part because it had nothing to trade, and the few survivors formed a coalition uniting Alterra under a tyrannical government to stave off "alien invasion". Several visiting ships were subsequently shot down. Reverse-engineering them and creating their own interstellar craft, the people of Alterra became a minor menace to surrounding systems, albeit eventually a footnote in history.

By 1105, Siduka is an unremarkable Imperial member world with 2,000,000 inhabitants.
