History & Background (Dossier)

Shuruppak is a non-agricultural asteroid belt located in Dingir Subsector of the Solomani Rim. The system is a member of the Imperium and is under military rule.

Shuruppak was an important system during the latter Interstellar Wars. During the Sixth Interstellar War the Terran Confederation fleet decisively defeated the Vilani fleet at Shuruppak in -2325, while the Seventh Interstellar War began with a Vilani assault on Shuruppak in -2316. During the Eighth Interstellar War, Shuruppak fell to the Vilani in -2293 as part of a slow, methodical advance by the main Sharurshid fleet.

Additional notes

Shuruppak is on the Imperium game map. Like several Imperial worlds on that map, its name has a Sumerian origin. Shuruppak was a Sumerian city on the Euphrates river in what is now southeastern Iraq. Its name means "healing place" in Sumerian.
