Shenn is a poor, non-agricultural and nonindustrial world.

  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
  • It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
  • It has few prospects for economic development. Life here is drastically bleak.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Utt Subsector of Halcyon Sector.

System Data

Ingersol-Shenn System

The primary is Ingersol, an ordinary red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.0136 Sols, a mass of 0.3626 Sols, and a diameter of 551,000 km. (I) a dense atmosphere stormworld, (II) a trace atmosphere worldlet, (III) a sparse icy planetoid belt, (IV) Radik, a ringed large gas giant: (IVa) Shenn is its second satellite and is designated the mainworld, (V) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (VI) a ringed large gas giant, and (VII) a small gas giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

  • The star experiences periodic flare activity.

Metz Subsystem

The companion is Metz, a dim red subdwarf star that lies approximately 870 AU from Ingersoll. It has a luminosity of 0.002 Sols, a mass of 0.104 Sols, and a diameter of 145,000 km. (I) a vacuum worldlet, (II) a trace atmosphere iceworld, (III) a vacuum iceworld, and (IV) an exotic atmosphere bigworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

  • The star experiences periodic flare activity.

(IV) Radik

(IV) Radik is a ringed large gas giant that orbits Ingersol at a mean distance of 0.93 AU (139.1 million km), within the habitable zone, and has an orbital period of 1 year 179 days. It has a diameter of 86,000 km and an atmosphere consisting of 91% hydrogen (H2), 9% helium (He), and less than 1% methane (CH4), carbon monoxide (CO), ammonia (NH3), water vapor (H2O) and other trace gases. It is a banded brown-grey color. It retains a family of four major satellites.

Satellites

Radik retains four major satellites:

(IVa) Gemilik (UWP Y200000-0, orbiting at 7 Diameters/600,000 km)
(IVb) Loro (UWP Y4A0000-0, orbiting at 12 Diameters/1.05 million km)
(IVc) Shenn (designated the mainworld, orbiting at 15 Diameters/1.29 million km)
(IVd) Tras (UWP H100000-0, orbiting at 25 Diameters/2.15 million km)

Mainworld Data

(IVc) Shenn

(IVc) Shenn is the third of the four major moons of (IV) Radik and is designated the mainworld. It orbits its parent world at a mean distance of 15 diameters (1.29 million km), with an orbital period of 139 days 22 hours: it is tidally locked to Radik. It has an axial tilt of 4 degrees relative to Radik. Shenn has a diameter of 2,915 km, a density of 4.75 g/cm³ and a surface gravity of 0.20 G. Tidal stresses caused by the gravitational pull of Radik cause frequent geological activity. It retains an atmosphere rated as Very Thin, Tainted, with a surface pressure of 0.12 bar and a composition of 83% nitrogen (N2), 13% abiotic oxygen (O2), 2% carbon dioxide (CO2), 1% argon (Ar), and 1% water vapor (H2O), methane (CH4), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the low percentage of atmospheric oxygen, the high percentage of atmospheric carbon dioxide, and the relatively high levels of background radiation: emission rates exceed 8 rads per hour. Around 17% of the surface is covered in sheets of water-ice and lakes of water kept liquid by geothermal activity. Mean surface temperature: -77°C. The climate is rated as Very Cold and is static, with no seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is sluggish and weak weather systems driven by the star drift across the globe.

Mainworld Ggeography and Topography

Total surface area: 26.7 million km², Land surface area: 22.2 million km², Ice and Water surface area: 4.5 million km².

  • Oxygen contained deep within the world's interior is released by outgassing and serves to renew the atmosphere: it continuously reacts with surface materials and other atmospheric gases, gradually reducing the percentage of oxygen in the air.

Native Lifeforms

Ingersol-Shenn System

No world in the system is known to have native life.

Metz Subsystem

No world in the subsystem is known to have native life.

History & Background (Dossier)

No information yet available.

World starport

Shenn has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Shenn possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Advanced automobiles.
    • Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
    • Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
    • Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
