The appointment of a Chief Master Sergeant (E9) to the position of Sergeant Major (E9) is to the seniormost non-commissioned officer position in an Imperial Army Battalion, Regiment, or Brigade. It is considered to be the equivalent of a Senior Warrant Officer.
Description (Specifications)
Each Battalion in the Imperial Army has one Sergeant Major who is the most senior Sergeant in the unit. Some Imperial Army staff appointments are also led by Sergeants Major, such as a Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM).
- The equivalent level of rank in the Imperial Navy is Master Chief Petty Officer.
- The equivalent appointment in the Imperial Marines is Sergeant Major.
The Sergeant Major attached to the staff of the Lord Marshal of the Unified Armies has the title Sergeant Major Imperial and represents the enlisted ranks of the Imperial Army to the most senior Officers as well as undertaking other, mostly ceremonial, duties.
