Mainworld Data

Scaramouche is a tide-locked world with a nitrogen and oxygen atmosphere that would be breathable were it not for the presence of a significant amount of free chlorine as well as hydrochloric acid vapor and even complex chlorine compounds such as phosgene.

Mainworld Geography & Topography

Scaramouche’s oceans and rivers are a weak solution of hydrochloric acid and chlorine “bleach.”

Native Lifeforms

The planet's simplest plant life, the equivalent of Terran algae, are able to break chlorine out of the salts present in seawater.

History & Background (Dossier)

Scaramouche is a backwater world of little importance, and one of the few worlds in the Rim where local longing for the "good old days" of Solomani rule remains strong enough to give rise to active unrest.

Imperial High / Landed Nobility

Scaramouche, as a member world of the Third Imperium has a member of the Imperial Nobility overseeing the world.

World Starport

Scaramouche has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Technology Level

Scaramouche possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government

Scaramouche has no central government for the world, an Anarchy. The largest governmental structure would be a family, tribe, or single clan. The largest group will be between 50 and 100 individuals, and there may be dozens to hundreds of them. This governmental structure can be stable over long periods of time if the population remains small or geographically separated.

World Law Level

It has been issued an Amber Zone travel advisory.

World Culture

Since the Imperial withdrawal, government on Scaramouche has varied from unstable to nonexistent. Numerous splinter groups of the local Solomani party have caused the movement to collapse from internal bickering, while no other political force has emerged. Violence is common, and resulting in the Travellers' Aid Society to designate it an Amber Zone.

Urbanization

Despite their world's lack of resources, the planet provides its own food and power thanks to the mechanical skills of its population. Many citizens live in largely self-sufficient underground towns with their own fusion reactors, hydroponics gardens, and mines. The world's starport and only city, Tiberio, is located on the shores of a hydrochloric acid sea.

Historical Data

The planet's harsh atmospheric conditions and relative lack of value contributed significantly to the continuation of Solomani sympathies. Resistance to the presence of an Imperial governor and a brigade of marines at the starport/capital led, in 1098, to the outbreak of the so-called Unity Uprisings against the government. The uprising was largely suppressed by Acting Governor General Ringiil Urshukaan, though his methods were harsh and later repudiated by higher authority (despite Urshukaan's popularity on nearby worlds, which perceived his actions as decisive in preventing a recurrence of unrest in that portion of the sector).

The organization of the rebellion effectively collapsed after Urshukaan's capture of its major leader, Moradeyo Davis Atiyah. After the short administration of Governor Baronet Rosa Demetriou, in which attempts at reconciliation were begun, it was decided that the Imperial presence on Scaramouche would be greatly reduced. Government was formally turned over to the citizens of the planet in 1102, and the post of Governor dissolved. The majority of the garrison was withdrawn at that time.
