A Scabbard is a sheath for the blade of a sword or dagger, typically made of wood, leather or metal. These are typically attached to the belt, though there are versions for having the weapon slung across the back. The scabbard protects the weapon from the elements while not in use, and ensure the weapon doesn't accidentally damage others in the process.
There are versions scabbards used to secure guns of various types. For pistols or single handed weapon a holster is typical, where long weapons use a scabbard for carrying either across the back, attached to the beast used as a mount, or in a vehicle.
This design of scabbard is standard for a blade or sword weapon, and is plain by design. Larger weapons require a larger scabbard. Many scabbards, especially of ceremonial weapons are more elaborate and ornate.
