The Sath of Ch'kaahi (Far Home 2836) are a technologically sophisticated Minor Non-Human Race with a semi-humanoid appearance.

Description (Specifications)

Physically, Sath resemble Humans: they have a similar body shape with generally the same proportions and their senses function within the same broad range. They breathe a similar mixture of atmospheric gases and have similar nutritional needs. Sath can use human equipment but find it a little awkward to handle; the same is true for humans utilizing Sath kit.

Homeworld:

Ch'kaahi

Physiology:

Sath are omnivores native to arid/desert terrain on their homeworld: their ecological niche is defined as "hunter". They are endothermic walkers classified Bilateral HBS-T-AN-LN-V, with a bony skeleton, blood internal fluids, and a hide covered in fine scales. They breathe atmospheric oxygen, respirating via an airway connected to the mouth. They have a slender torso supported by two long legs, two arms ending in manipulator hands with four digits, and a small residual tail that assists with balance. The head contains the brain and the major sensory organs and sports a fringe of fleshy structures associated with their ethnic origin. Sath have no distinctive natural weapons. They have a ‘tiled’ skin that is most often tan-coloured, though they may also be brown or green. Tile patterns indicate their general ethnic background. Based on their profile: thick and standard, the Sath stand around 1.5m tall and weigh around 60kg. Their legs are relatively long and are habitually held in a crouched position - if a Sath were to extend its legs to their maximum length, it would stand more than 2 meters tall. The Sath's speed is rated as slow: maximum speed is 45kph. A typical Sath has a Vigor of 7.

Senses

  • Energy: V-16–GBP. Sath vision is very similar to that of humans, though it is shifted slightly towards the UV end of the spectrum.
  • Vibration: H-18-9382. Sath aural perception is slightly superior to that of humans. They can hear sounds at frequencies from about 20 Hz to 25,000 Hz.
  • Volatiles: S-10-2. Sath olfactory perception is broadly equivalent to that of humans. Their ability to taste is also similar.
  • Matter: T-06-2. The Sath's scaly skin is similarly sensitive to pressure and texture to that of humans.
  • Fields: A-0. Unaware.
  • Aura: P-0. Oblivious.

Characteristics

A baseline Sath has the following characteristic ranges:

  • Strength 2D
  • Dexterity 2D
  • Vigor 2D
  • Intelligence 2D
  • Education 2D
  • Social 2D

Aptitudes:

  • Females: Characteristics: Str -2, Dex +2, Intuition. Females are instinctively aware of the needs of hatchlings and children.
  • Males: Characteristics: Str -2, Dex +1, Int +1, Intuition. Males are organisers: they are instinctively able to anticipate the needs of females, hatchlings and children.

Reproduction

Sath are oviparous – they are egg-laying. They have three genders, relatively small gracile males and females entirely focused on the production and raising of young Sath, and larger neuters – the vast majority of the Sath population – who maintain society and civilization:

  • Neuters make up 99% of the population (baseline Sath).
  • Females make up approximately 0.5% of the population (1 in 200). Once fertilised, females remain gravid for approximately 30 days before laying a clutch of 3–5 leathery eggs.
  • Males make up approximately 0.5% of the population (1 in 200). Males are instinctively organisers, able to see to the needs of females and young. They are able to "call" neuters through the use of specialised vocal signals.

Females lay eggs within a hatchery, a circular bed of fine sand located in a walled underground chamber. Egg chambers typically hold 40–50 eggs. The development of eggs can be accelerated or retarded by factors such as temperature and atmospheric moisture content. The development of eggs will not generally be started until the chamber is full. Eggs typically hatch after 100 days.

The eggs and the hatchling Sath are attended by both males and females. Hatchlings are agile and mobile from the moment they break out of their shell and instinctively cluster together and hide until they are provided with food. Hatchlings and children remain within the hatchery, housed in schooling chambers, until they develop into teens. Teens are physically fully grown but their brains are still developing. They are moved away from the hatchery and continue their mental development and education within Sath society until reaching full maturity, at around the age of 10.

Psychology & Philosophy

No information yet available.

Primal Drives

Sath psychology is driven by factors common to many sophonts:

  • Acquisition (stemming from the need to gather adequate nutrition),
  • Preservation (derived from the need to continue their personal existence), and
  • Perpetuation (the urge to continue the species).

Behaviours

A number of other factors are important in the mental processes of the Sath:

Major Drives

  • Ambition.
    • No information yet available.

Minor Drives

  • Resentment.

Philosophical Outlook

Philosophy: Dialectical Materialism, which preaches that you have a Thesis (some idea), then an antithesis (an opposing idea), then a synthesis. In other words, there is one idea, then another opposing it, and from the opposition of the two ideas, another idea is born. The materialism aspect means that the world is all material. There is no spiritual aspect to sophonts or the universe.

Theology: Atheism

Ethics: Ethical relativism. Right and wrong is relative to the situation, to what’s happening. There is no absolute right and wrong.

Psychology: monistic self-actualization. You will become whatever you decide to become. You have to be in touch with what’s right for you at the given moment.

Society & Culture:

  • Homogenity: D (Fragmented)
  • Acceptance: 6 (Generally aloof). With regard to humans, their Acceptance is 2 (Very xenophobic)
  • Strangeness: 4 (Evolution of technology thru human origins, relatively familiar)
  • Symbols: F (completely alien, with their own culture, languages, and architectural styles)

Demographics

6 billion (Homeworld)

15 billion within the worlds of the Sath Alliance and the area of Sath Exploration

Language

The primary means of communication is through vocalisation.

A great many languages and dialects exist:

Social Organization:

Sath are divided by gender. Almost all males and females permanently remain within egg hatcheries, tending to the needs of hatchlings and children. Neuters, who make up around 99% of the population, live in small social groups bonded by common interest, mutual employment, or friendship. These small groups cluster together into urban communities clustered around egg hatcheries. Factions hold distinct geographical territories traditionally centered on one or more large cities.

Government

Balkanisation. Competing rival Faction-nations.

Laws and Justice

Generally moderate laws.

Military

Each Sath Faction maintains powerful military forces. Sath Alliance Military Forces are expansionistic, and aggressive.

Interstellar Relations:

Sath have a deep pathological dislike of humans, who they regard as interlopers and thieves who have stolen 'their' region of space. Despite the fact that they gained their advanced technology (and thus their ability to lay any sort of claim to an interstellar territory) from humans in the first place is not a point that is often raised. They generally distrust species such as the Temelik, the Meroquan, and particularly Hoppers, who appear to have thrown in their lot with the humans.
