Starships are designed with the Classic Traveller format, using High Guard Shipyard v1.13 written by Andrea Vallance. |
The Saladin class Fleet Scout is a reconnaissance starship.
- It is a paramilitary ship and a Scout Vessel.
Description (Specifications)
It is a vessel with 1-G and J-1 performance with a streamlined Needle Hull.
- It carries light armament and a defensive suite.
- It ordinarily carries no subcraft, ship's vehicles, and drones when needed.
- It has a # sophont crew and # marines.
This is a streamlined needle wedge vessel with fuel scoops and on board fuel purification systems. The hull has fairly thick armor, which is very rare for a scout. These are large scouts, and are often tasked with conveying the highest priority top secret and secure fleet dispatches back and forth between fleet maneuver elements on deployment. It is essential that the design be tough enough to survive long enough to deliver its message. They have Jump-4 range and 6G acceleration and agility. They have a massive Model/9 fib computer which in these hulls tend to have a very laid back, groovy attitude. The local computer manufacturer included a full holographic avatar interface, with extensive library files of music, art, history, entertainment and cultural files. This commercial/business software package came free of charge with the retail and naval purchasing orders, and was deemed too expensive to eradicate.
Weapon Systems / Features
There are four triple missile turrets grouped into a single torpedo battery and two triple sand caster turrets grouped into a single battery for defense. To preserve the agility, no energy weapons were mounted. No troops nor auxiliary vehicles are carried. They have the equivalent of 6.5 staterooms. The crew of eleven consists of a pilot, navigator, six engineers, medic/science officer, and two gunners. The "captain" (commanding officer) is usually the pilot or the navigator, and the other one is usually the XO. Small private rooms are used, each equivalent to half of a commercial stateroom. One full size room is held in reserve for a middle passage passenger. This billet is used by staff naval officers being transferred between commands, trying to catch up with squadrons already on maneuvers. This "passenger" can be a VIP, naval inspector or what have you. When not in use the crew uses it as a ward room or crew lounge. This is because the actual "galley" is the size of a tiny broom closet.

Basic Ship Characteristics
Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (...of ten subcraft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (...thousands of tons) where necessary. History & Background (Dossier)
They are deployed in ScoutRon formations along the Solomani Rim and have been know to stand and fight. It serves in the three ScoutRons of the 293rd Fleet. This is much to the chagrin of surprised Solomani navy escorts who expect all scouts and couriers to run at the first sign of trouble. There are a few declassified anecdotes of groups of these ships turning the tables on aggressive Solomani light escort vessels.
