Rynn is a poor, low-population hellworld with a population less than 10,000 sophonts struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.
- Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often form intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
- It is a member of the Firstworlds in the Esqua Subsector of Far Home Sector.
Astrography and Planetology
This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.
- It is a part of the Risa Cluster.

System Data
Tocal-Rynn System
The primary is Tocal, a dim red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.004 Sols, a mass of 0.273 Sols, and a diameter of 414,000 km. (I) Sadiq, a small gas giant: (Ia) Rynn is its only major moon and is designated the mainworld, (II-I) a vacuum iceworld, (II-II) a sparse stony planetoid belt, (III) a large gas giant, (IV) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (V) a trace atmosphere iceworld, and (VI) a vacuum worldlet form the outer system. Many of the worlds in the system retain satellites.
(I) Sadiq
(I) Sadiq is a small gas giant that orbits Tocal at a mean distance of 0.21 AU (31.4 million km), within the outer system, and has an orbital period of 67 days 6 hours. It has a diameter of 25,000 km and an atmosphere consisting of 89% hydrogen (H2), 11% helium (He), and less than 1% methane (CH4), carbon monoxide (CO), ammonia (NH3), water vapor (H2O) and other trace gases. It is a deep mottled blue color with thin bands of white high altitude cloud. It retains a single major satellite.
Satellite
Sadiq retains one major satellite:
- (Ia) Rynn (designated the mainworld, orbiting at 15 Diameters/375,000 km)
Mainworld Data
(Ia) Rynn
(Ia) Rynn is the only major moon of (I) Sadiq and is designated the mainworld. It orbits its parent world at a mean distance of 15 diameters (375,000 km), with an orbital period of 40 days 5 hours: it is tidally locked to Sadiq. The axial tilt is 6 degrees relative to Sadiq. Rynn has a diameter of 4,773 km, a density of 5.16 g/cm³ and a surface gravity of 0.35 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Sadiq cause frequent geological activity. The atmosphere is rated as Very Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.19 bar and a composition of 86% nitrogen (N2), 13% abiotic oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), methane (CH4), azane (NH3), nitric oxide (NO), carbon dioxide (CO2), and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the low percentage of atmospheric oxygen and by atmospheric nitrogen compounds present as a result of outgassing from deep within the planet. Around 17% of the surface is covered in large sheets of water ice and small lakes of water kept liquid by geothermal energy: tidal ranges are negligible. Mean surface temperature: -132°C. The climate is rated as Frigid and is static, with no seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is sluggish and weak weather systems driven by the star work across the globe.
Mainworld Geography and Topography
Total surface area: 72 million km², Land surface area: 60 million km², Ice surface area: 12.5 million km², Water surface area: 1.5 million km².
- Oxygen contained deep within the world's interior is released by outgassing and serves to renew the atmosphere: it continuously reacts with surface materials and other atmospheric gases, gradually reducing the percentage of oxygen in the air.
Native Lifeforms
Tocal-Rynn System
No world in the system is known to have native life.
History & Background (Dossier)
No information yet available.
World starport
Rynn has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World technology level
Rynn possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Advanced automobiles.
- Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
- Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
- Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
World government
Rynn is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referendum, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.
