System Data
Konstanz-Risa System
The primary is Konstanz, an orange giant star. It has a luminosity of 350 Sols, a mass of 5.26 Sols and a diameter of 64.3 million km – the corona extends to 0.21 AU, within orbital position (I). The inner system consists of (IV) a vacuum worldlet, (V) a trace atmosphere worldlet, (VII) a vacuum worldlet, and (VIII) a sparse stony planetoid belt – orbital position (I) lies within the star and orbital positions (II) and (III) are empty. (IX) Nerent, an corrosive atmosphere inferno world orbits in the habitable zone: (IXa) Risa is its only major satellite and is designated the mainworld. (X) a thin atmosphere hospitable world forms the outer system. Risa is the only major satellite in the system.
(IX) Nerent
(IX) Nerent (UWP Y7B0000-0) is designated an inferno world. It orbits Konstanz at a mean distance of 19.2 AU (2.872 billion km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 36 years 249 days and a rotation period of 35.5 hours. The axial tilt is 7 degrees. Nerent has a diameter of 11,434 km, a density of 4.88 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.79 G. It is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Corrosive, with a mean surface pressure of 76 bar and a composition of 95% carbon dioxide (CO2), 4% nitrogen (N2), and 1% sulfur dioxide (SO2), azane (NH3), argon (Ar), carbon monoxide (CO) and other trace gases. The world has no hydrosphere. Mean surface temperature: 345°C. The atmosphere is very active and violent weather systems, driven by the star, scour the globe. The climate is chaotic.
Mainworld Data
(IXa) Risa
(IXa) Risa is the only major moon of (IX) Nerent and is designated the mainworld. It orbits its parent world at a mean distance of 25 diameters (286,000 km) and has an orbital period of 14 days 5 hours: it is tidally locked to Nerent. The axial tilt is 7 degrees. Risa has a diameter of 5,004 km, a density of 5.88 g/cm³ and a surface gravity of 0.42 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Nerent cause frequent geological activity. The atmosphere is rated as Thin, with a mean surface pressure of 0.43 bar and a composition of 81% nitrogen (N2), 18% oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Risa is a desert world: around 4% of the surface is covered in lakes of liquid water. Mean surface temperature: 34°C. The atmosphere is active and moderate weather systems driven by the star work across the globe. The climate is static.
Mainworld Geography and Topography
Total surface area: 78 million km², Land surface area: 75 million km², Water surface area: 3 million km². Highland regions dominate the equator, with the Massif Risa containing the highest peaks. The northern hemisphere is generally rugged and arid, with the only major body of water, the Sea of Scum, located close to the northern pole. The southern hemisphere has many low-lying areas dotted with small surface lakes fed from large underground aquifers. The largest southern body of water is the Splinter Sea, with a surface area of almost 300,000 km².
Native Lifeforms
Konstanz-Risa System
Risa, the mainworld, has extensive native life, consisting of microscopic organisms, stromatolite-parallels and primitive flora that can be found in almost every ecological niche. Native flora is moss-like and extremely tolerant of dry conditions, growing in vast green-blue carpets. They cover as much as 15% of the globe: their metabolic functions power the process of atmospheric renewal. While the various bodies of water teem with microscopic fauna, land-based organisms are extremely limited. The most advanced forms are worm-like creatures that exist in the moist roots of mosses and measure a few millimeters in length at most.
The cold marginally hospitable world lying in orbital position (X) (within the H+ region of the outer system) has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find even a minimal trace of shelter and warmth. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.
No other world in the system is known to have native life.
History & Background (Dossier)
No information yet available.
World starport
Risa has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.
World technology level
Risa possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
- Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
- Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
- Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
World government
Risa is governed by a Corporate Polity with a single corporation with a typical corporate structure as a government. A company town, or world. The typical corporate run world usually has a single purpose. Examples include mining, agriculture, or other kinds of resource extraction. But rather than a simple base of operations, there are facilities for housing workers and their families including hospitals, schools, and other infrastructure. How, or if, the children of the workers are incorporated into the workforce varies with companies. The corporation running the world may be a subsidiary of a larger interstellar corporation.
