Republic of Fel
The Republic of Fel is a Vargr state that has existed independently or in combination with other states for a millenia.
Description[edit]
The Republic of Fel has been a strange triumph of Impersonal Bureaucracy over the turbulence of the Charisma of the Vargr that have passed through its leadership over the centuries.
History[edit]
The history of the Republic of Fel really starts with the Ksekgizoksdhaerzluenoe, of which it was a member in 100. There were various machinations within that polity, and the Republic of Fel and Aerfor declared independence from it, forming the Sandherroerghdoe Kaefoulto. By 210 this state controlled many of the Million Subsector's core worlds.
This state was not able to compete with the influx of Human settlers that arrived from Corridor Sector in the 300s and when Aerfor fell away in 329 the state disintegrated. The Republic of Fel was now just a small Vargr state amongst many. The Republic joined the Kloellnugdhungkidztse in 402 as a reaction to the Imperial formal incorporation of District 167 and as a means to prevent Talon from re-asserting it's power in the region.
From 440 onwards, the Republic of Fel fought hard to remain distinct from the powers at Talon and Aerfor - particularly with Aerfor's close ties with the Imperium - but its need to trade always meant that the Imperium could control its ambitions.
Suddenly, the Imperium fell apart in the First Frontier War. This attracted a number of Privateers to the Million Subsector and the Republic of Fel was foremost amongst those that benefitted from this. The ceasefire declared between the Zhodani and the Imperium may have stopped the fighting in the Spinward Marches Sector, but the Vargr raiders were not bound by that treaty. And when the Second Frontier War's end saw the Million Subsector's defences stripped it looked like the Republic's moment had come. The Duke of Atsah, however, rallied to the side of the Imperium, not it's Vargr brethren, and the chance to control Imperial trade with it's Spinward province faded away.
After 616, the Republic of Fel was almost bankrupt, and it took many years to recover - with the internal rivalries of the subsector thwarting its ambitions at every turn. Indeed is wasn't until the 1100s that the state was again part of any formal interstellar grouping - this time the United Followers of Augurgh. Augurgh's harnessing of both Talon and Fel in a single state was considered an accolade to his diplomacy and an indication of the depths of despair into which the Republic of Fel had fallen.
The Republic of Fel was destroyed by the Virus incursions of 1143/1144 when the entire system was subjected to a major and deliberate genocide.
