Demographics

Significant populations of the following races (sophont species) reside within the polity:

  • Humaniti (Human Races)
    • Muirimi Solomani: 10.838 billion (Iphigenaia Sector).
    • Zhodani: a few hundred far-flung envoys, traders, and merchants at most.

Government & Politics

The Regency of Muirimi is a Federation characterized by a low degree of governmental centralization and a weak bureaucracy. It grants a high degree of local sovereignty planetary governments and sometimes suffers from a poor ability to create unified policy. The Regency of Muirimi government is usually classified as an Association, a type of Federation.

  • It formed as a response to the increasing numbers of belligerent, land-hungry Aslan crossing into the region.
  • By working together, each of its member states and worlds were better able to meet the challenges presented by the Aslan.
  • The former states that comprise the Regency retain strong individual cultural identities.

Decline

The regency is not a particularly strong force, lacking both starships and manufacturing ability. It is likely to be overwhelmed by the endless waves of Ihatei within the coming decades.

Military & Intelligence

The Regency fields a number of Reconnaisance squadrons, each made up of ten TL–13 100 ton Jump-4 scouts.

Each naval station has its own defense squadron. Each squadron fields two large vessels as the core of its force:

Ground forces of the regency include:

Riter features a regency Naval Base.

Wiggins features a regency Naval Base.

Wiggins features a Wiggins Regency Motor Rifle Regiment which deploys the BTR 182 class Heavy 6x6 Wheeled Truck.

History & Background (Dossier)

The rimward regions of Iphigenaia Sector were settled by the Muirimi, a Solomani cultural group largely originating from the Central Asian and Indian subcontinent regions of Terra in the last decades of the Long Night. The Muirimi territories are among the more remote human communities in Charted Space, abutting against the vast uninhabited expanses of the Hinters.

The Muirimi Culture: 1105

The Muirimi culture is closely related to Sitaraism, a form of star-worship that began on Terra during the Rule of Man.

  • Muirimi is an evolution of the Urdu word "Mujrim", meaning "guilty", or "criminal".
  • The name was originally a derogatory term, seemingly originating from the Muirimi Sitaraism belief that worlds (and their resources) were the property of the faithful alone, and as such could be taken from non-believers at will. Early followers of Sitaraism were categorized as criminals.
  • Early members of the culture were persecuted for their faith but they survived, and the name is now a badge of pride.
  • Muirimi has become a broad cultural term, referring to any individual originating from the long-settled but isolated human-dominated region lying along the edge of the Great Rift in Theron and Iphigenaia Sectors.

Until the Aslan colonised Touchstone Sector in the 1060s, the nearest neighbor to Muirimi region was the Nakris Confederation in Beyond Sector.

  • The remoteness of the Muirimi states is tied to their complex history of religious persecution. The Muirimi have a reputation for isolationism.

Linguistic Topography

Naiurdu, a language descended from the Urdu language of Terra, is the official language of the Regency.

  • Many Naiurdu words – particularly place names and world names – were translated into Riftian Anglic, but then transcribed phonetically by the Scout Service.

Other Languages:

Enlightenment

Enlightenment – and the unlocking of strange powers – play a central part in Muirimi Sitaraism belief.

  • This takes years of dedicated training and requires a true spiritual awakening.
  • It has been suggested that this is a form of psionic training.
  • A few hardy souls from other parts of Charted Space make the long trek to what they term "Far Tibet", seeking "personal enlightenment".
  • The Muirimi are generally xenophobic and few outsiders are accepted.

Aslan scouts and pioneers began moving through the region in increasing numbers from the 1000s onwards.

  • By the 1050s these incursions were frequent enough and strong enough to foment the formation of the Regency.
  • By 1065, at the end of the Second Survey, the polity was extant.
