Redous is a poor, low-population world with a population of less than 10,000 sophonts in population size.
- This poor world is struggling to establish itself and living conditions in many areas are rudimentary.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Velous Subsector of Far Home Sector.
Astrography and Planetology
This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.
- The system lies on the edge of the Demon's Eye Rift.
- The supergiant primary of the Demon's Eye system and the huge Demon's Eye Nebula that surrounds it, lying four parsecs to trailing, are clearly visible in the sky.
- It lies on the Kuyt Chain Star Lane.

System Data
Salmar-Redous System
The primary is Salmar, an ordinary red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.0334 Sols, a mass of 0.4574 Sols, and a diameter of 711,000 km. (I-I) Redous, designated the mainworld, and (I-II) a very thin atmosphere hospitable world have a shared orbit within the habitable zone. (II) a very thin atmosphere hospitable world, (III) an exotic atmosphere radworld, (IV-I) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (IV-II) a trace atmosphere iceworld, and (VII) a dense icy planetoid belt form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.
Mainworld Data
(I-I) Redous
(I-I) Redous is designated the mainworld. It orbits Salmar at a mean distance of 0.12 AU (17.9 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 22 days 11 hours: it is tidally locked to Salmar. The axial tilt is 3 degrees. Redous has a diameter of 6,274 km, a density of 4.78 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.43 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Salmar cause frequent geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Very Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.22 bar and a composition of 85% nitrogen (N2), 13% abiotic oxygen (O2), 1% argon (Ar), and 1% water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), neon (Ne), ozone (O3) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the low percentage of atmospheric oxygen. Approximately 28% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.2m. Mean surface temperature: 35°C. The climate is rated as Hot and is static, with no seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is slow and minor weather systems driven by the star and the seas drift across the globe.
Mainworld Geography and Topography
Total surface area: 124 million km², Land surface area: 89 million km², Water surface area: 35 million km².
- The oxygen in the atmosphere is abiotic in origin, produced by the photocatalytic reaction between the high levels of UV energy radiating from the star and titanium dioxide (TiO2), which is found in surface minerals such as ilmenite.
- Redous is a Twilight Zone World.
- The world experiences libration, which causes the star to move in the sky and periodically rise and fall above the horizon in the twilight region.
Native lifeforms
Salmar-Redous System
No world in the system is known to have native life: all of the hospitable worlds have atmospheres containing abiotic oxygen.
History & Background (Dossier)
- The supergiant primary of the Demon's Eye system and the huge Demon's Eye Nebula that surrounds it, lying a few parsecs to trailing, are clearly visible in the sky.
World starport
Redous has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World technology level
Redous possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land & Water: Grav belts and maturing gravcraft.
- Air: Greatly improved hybrid grav-aircraft.
- Space: Improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-1.
World government
Redous is governed by a Participatory Democracy where eligible voters determine laws and policy. What determines an eligible voter varies. There may be smaller councils or regional bodies to write the policies voted on. Leadership of the government and all members of the bureaucracy are determined by voting population.
