The rank of Rear Admiral is the one of the senior commissioned officer rank in the Imperial Navy. The Admiral is given charge of one of the Numbered Fleets in a sector, usually the reserve fleet.

History & Background (Dossier)

Squadrons of the Imperial Navy, may be commanded by Rear Admirals if the role or size is such that a Commodore is not felt sufficiently senior.

Permanent appointment to this rank attracts the title of Knight. i.e. Should there not be any appropriate Noble candidate, the non-Noble will be granted a knighthood as part of the promotion process.
